Rivel just killed random gecko for fun. At first i was worried she would eat it and probably get upset stomach or parasites, but she just toyed with it. I managed to lure her away with treats, the gecko was barely alive. Its skin was half torn, one of the leg is severed and tail came off before that. I just put it outside, but iirc geckos cannot regenerate limb, just tails.

Those geckos keep mosquitoes population at bay, i hope she doesn't hunt them to local extinction.

Teeth cleaning training is going well. She let me reach the part of her back teeth where the plaque are. She tolerate it for like a second, but i heard even applying the toothpaste on affectted area is already helpful.

My cat loses his mind whenever he sees a lizard/gecko/etc. on the windowsill. One got into the apartment somehow and he never even noticed.

She greets me when i come home, then flop on my feet and purr.

Loving all these pictures, I've never seen a cat with those colorations / "paint scheme" before.

The ringworm has become a huge pain in the ass -_-. My wife had it on her arm, she got cream for it and got it treated.

It got worse on Desi's ear and worse on Scully's cheek and our normal vet kept telling us it was going to require more expensive emergency visits or we'd have to wait, and my wife got mad because I had already brought up some concerns about a rash on Desi's neck to begin with.

Anyway, our normal vet finally did a panel and confirmed it is a fungal infection. They want to do blood testing on the cats and then prescribe oral medication. Everywhere you look online says oral medication is the way to go, but they do say it is pretty toxic and can be hard on the liver...

So then we call this other vet we had gone to once recently and the guy said exactly what my wife wanted to hear, that they would prefer doing topical treatments for two to four weeks and see what happens after that. So that's what we're doing now. It's a lot easier to get this on Desi's ear though than on Scully's cheek - Scully already fights really hard against being held down and then since it's on her cheek we want to try to rub it in even longer so she doesn't just lick it off -_-.

It's a pain lol. It cleared up from my wife's arm but she woke up this morning with a red spot on her cheek and now she's paranoid it came back to her again.

Oh i hope that works then. It is contagious to humans? That is one nasty disease. I thought these can be treated with regular antibiotics.

It's like harmless but annoying and takes forever to clear up apparently and there's a dozen and one different recommended ways to clear it out and some take less time and some take more time. It is so annoying lol.

Oh no! One time, I left a bowl of ground beef grease on the table to cool and my cat ate a few mouthfuls of it. He was okay... for about an hour and then he puked EVERYWHERE. He was also snuggling with me when it happened lol

I think the ringworm itself is not life threatening, but if you don't do anything to treat it then it can spread. With a health immune system cats and humans can fight it off but it can take *months* to clear up on its own. It does seem like if it gets too deep into the skin then that can also open the doorway for other types of infection though.

The vet we decided to switch to is advising topical only treatment which consists of a very wet wipe followed by an ointment. It should take 4-6 weeks to clear up, and the ointment is antibacterial and antifungal so it helps prevent any other infections.

Other forms of treatment include baths with special shampoo every couple days (helps clear off infected fur and keeps the fungus from spreading) and oral medications, which is what our original vet wanted to prescribe. The problem with that is that it requires regular blood testing in addition to the oral medication - first they have to even clear the cat to even take it, and then they have to keep testing to make sure there's no severe impact on liver functionality. So there's more risk involved there and that's why my wife didn't want to do it.

I was really expecting this new vet to recommend the same thing but when I brought it up he was like "Oh no, that's too heavy - we only do oral medication as an absolute last resort".

SO We'll see how it goes!

Also I was playing with Desi today and I realized one of her paws feels deformed near the shoulder area. She has been running and playing just fine since we adopted her so I don't think it impacts her ability to move at all, but I was a little surprised to just notice it. Makes me wonder if it's connected to whatever broke her ribs :(. Also she's still kinda wobbly and her back paws are still weak-ish. She's jumping higher and higher every day and climbs and stuff just fine but when she does her stretches she loses balance sometimes. It's kinda cute.

I hope she survives, we really love her so much.

today she's not in the mood, i keep touching. once, she back away peacefully, twice, she slaps without claws, thrice she used claws lol.

How long has it been since she hunted last? That sounds more like her feeling edgy than mad.

Cats have them tickle toes so you gotta watch out, it's not too common that they let you touch their paws (at least not their back ones).

And the bad breath could be caused by her teething - the gums get a little inflamed and the bacteria mixes with the odor and he says "you get pure butthole". Lmao

Ugh. Guy is pretty cool on the phone at least.

Get her enzymatic toothpaste and train her to get her teeth brushed early on. Rivel is kinda hard to make her tolerate the toothbrush.

That's probably not a bad idea with the teethbrushing, we never did do it right with the other two cats and I feel bad about that :(
