If he refuses to hold an election, what will actually happen?

Will the Secret service turn on him if he overstays his welcome past when the handover would happen? Because that would be awesome.

I want to believe he doesn't have the power to follow through with this but the GOP only cares about power, if they think they could lose it they would back this move with Trump. I mean law says no matter what happens Trump's term is up in January but as we've seen with impeachment laws just don't apply to him and should the GOP hold the senate they'll be moer than happy to spit on the laws to keep him in power

The president can't do this unilaterally. It would require actual legislation (or at least a vote of congress, per Article 2) to delay an election, but the inauguration is set by the 20th amendment and cannot be altered without another amendment.

you mean the same constitution that has an emoluments clause?

The constitution is the bedrock of our legal and political system if you are a democrat president. Its just an outdated set of suggestions if you are a Republican President.

No matter what, come January 20, 2021 he will no longer be president. The Secret Service, along with every other level of government, will no longer "serve at his pleasure".
We'll either have President Pelosi if they want to argue the semantics that there's nothing explicitly stating she does not keep the Speakership just because there's no House, or it will go to the new President pro tempore of the Senate which is presumed would be Leahy.

her term is up, too. when I asked about this a month ago, the answer I got is each state would fill the Congress vacancies by their established laws, and then they would determine a Speaker, who would become President.

My new question is, what happens if only some of the States postpone elections? would a 270-100 EV result count? how about a 170-160?

Can't, per article 2.

The Congress may determine the time of choosing the electors, and the day on which they shall give their votes; which day shall be the same throughout the United States.

Yes, but I saw another point raised.

Speaker of the House is not an elected position. Speakers are placed by the House and don't actually have to be members of Congress

It's not the ranking member of the House that is third in line for presidency, it's the Speaker. I don't know how that works as far as being active or not.

Not that it excuses it but they will claim they were just "following orders" at the time

however due process will catch up with (some of) them eventually

Also, I think the fact that Trump has shit all over the constitution while the GOP stood there and laughed should tell you that they don't give two fucks about anything other than power. Also, DHS at least for sure doesn't take their oath seriously. They are the ones kidnapping people off the streets of Portland. The only way Trump goes away if he pulls this off is if people with guns are willing make sure that it happens, and since most 2A militia types are bootlicking chuds, you can count them out.

The interesting twist here is that there's no constitutional need for a popular election.
The "election" could be cancelled in any given state, and those states just choose electors anyway. That'll be an interesting day.

Trump can declare them canceled all he goddamned well pleases. It isn't going to magically stop the states that want to hold elections.

He isn't God. He's isn't King. He isn't a dictator (much as he wishes). He doesn't have full domain and control of the entirety of the states and their going ons. He has power, yes, but as we saw in Portland, the states can tell the federal government to GTFO.
