She just got a piece done yesterday, and she told me she still has the wrap on, and would take it off later. I asked why the hell would she still have that on, and she said he told her keep it on a minimum of 24 hours, wtf.

Maybe he makes his living off of touching up tattoos that didnt heal because of his dumb advice, but Ive never heard an artist who would legit offer up such destructive pearls of wisdom. Shes still refusing to take it off, even after her boyfriend told her the same thing I did.

Uhhhh, I've always been told to leave it on overnight (granted my sessions normally end around 10pm-ish), so while keeping it on for 24hrs is a bit weird, you normally keep it on for a good many hours to let it heal before trying to clean it the first time.

Also, with the way they've come along in disinfectant and the pads they use at tattoo shops, it's normal to allow it some time to stay covered.

That beinh said, after twelve hours, you need to change that dressing for sure.

Ive got full sleeves, Ive never been told to wear a wrap longer than two hours, your open would needs to heal and be cleaned, any artist who says otherwise wouldnt be getting my business.

Yea, my artist gave me some extra wraps to use after (only a couple. But still helpful) and taught me how to apply them. I keep the first on for about 6 hours max, clean it and let it sit in the air.

I apply the extra wraps before bed for the first couple nights (after a proper cleaning, obviously). After that it's just ointment. 24 hours is going to cause an infection and ruin the whole piece

That is terrible advice. Oxygen is super important for the healing of a tattoo.

Some medical wraps allow the tattoo to breath but standard, run of the mill plastic wrap isn't going to cut it.

I usually instruct people to leave wrap on for no longer than two hours and to clean it with antibacterial soap when they do.

I've kept the wraps on for about at least 8 hours max with ice to help the swelling to go down. After that it's just cleaning with unscented soap a thousand times a day for a couple of months.

A lot of people are shit at their jobs, just look at the president. Only an idiot would tell someone to keep an open would wrapped up for longer than a day, you must not have any ink.

Is the tattoo artist an apprentice? How big is the tattoo?

Here's the the thing.... There is a zero percent chance that the area will not become sweaty over the course of 24 hours. That alone is reason to change the dressing out. No way you want a sweaty fresh tattoo. You have to keep that shit clean.

If it's Saniderm, you can leave it on for up to 72 hours. I unwrap my shit immediately after I walk out of the shop no matter what.

Don't do this, once or twice a day is plenty. You're prolonging the process by over washing because some of that bacteria is critical to the healing process.

I'm exaggerating surely but once or twice a day ain't nearly enough for me.
