Kinda expository, but you know it well pay off.

If you haven't read it yet, Solo Leveling is one of the best manhwa out there. Pretty tense with well structured story and progression. It's not quite an isekai, but, yes the MC is OP as you might expect. If any isekai has interested you, give Solo Leveling a good shot.

I think Manwha is korean for manga/comic

isekai is a genre that means "other world". it's usually about a person from the real world somehow ending up in another one.

You should just get power leveled. Why spend 3 hours doing what takes 20 minutes or less?

oh it's "only I level up". that's apparently the official translation of the name in english. I keep seeing ads for it on youtube under "Only I level up" name

In 2003, shows that used video game mechanics as part of its setting were exciting and novel.

Today, the minute I see a reference to a video game in an anime title or description, its a hard pass.

Is there anything about this story that will win over my jaded ass? >_>

Yeah, guess so. It's good. If you've read Tower of God, the main character is way more OP compared to his contemporaries, but it's also structured better.

I haven't but maybe I will look up both these now. I have heard of Tower of God. but never looked into it

No. It's a shonen series like Fist of the North Star or DBZ or any other, it just has some added video game elements for only one character. The art is great and story is solid but it's not original. The world feels like the ant arc of HxH in that there's an imminent monster threat.
People read My Hero Academy and other Shonen Jump schlock, here's a standard shonen with nice art and decent story.

BTW, new Overgeared just came out which is actually novel. It starts off with the main character very weak and he advances by smithing his own gear. It's only 38 chapters in and worth a read.
