I know next to nothing about web design, as evidenced by my current gallery (sig) being built in basic bitch WordPress. And the more I learn about WP and PHP through my job, the more I just...don't want to learn PHP as a hobby. So I'm starting fresh.

I'm going through Mozilla's tutorials on HTML, CSS, etc. I've made exactly one thing in JavaScript and it's this:

Which I guess I now have to find a place for somewhere.

However long this topic lasts, it'll be 85% blogfaqs as I learn new stuff, 10% sharing Japanese ASCII artists (Shift_JIS art) because their stuff is way better than mine, and 5% posting new ASCII when I get around to it. Speaking of, here's some art I've made since the last topic.

Finally, any advice or tangential discussion about web design and development is of course welcome. I don't know how far I'm gonna go with this and programming beyond simply building a website I'm satisfied with, but we'll see.

\_()_/ I like esoteric digital arts, and I re-shared and edited a lot of ASCII back when it was postable so I was always really into it. I even have an idea for an editor that would make creating gamefaqs-friendly ASCII easier, so that maybe people besides me would make new art again. And if they don't, well at least it gave me a development goal to work towards.

Learning about responsive images and I do not understand "w" as it relates to units. Tutorial makes it sound like Windows displays that info in image properties, but it doesn't? Maybe if I download GIMP or something that'll tell me how many "w"s I am in possession of.



"w" here refers to warau () (laugh) or warai () (smile). I try to be in possession of as many of these "w"s as possible.

Drew up a rough sitemap. The pages that would require actual coding:

-ASCII editor where anyone can submit a source image and then type over it in a variety of font and size choices, and then save the text to the site if they wish. I'd also like to work in a GameFAQs setting where it tags the 80 character mark of any string (the maximum a postable string can be nowadays) that the user types out. Even if I'm the only one who uses such a thing, it'd make creating new art for the boards easier, but also just the whole process of making ASCII easier.

-A place for people to submit their or others' ASCII to display in a gallery.

-A search function that looks through all of the Alphabet Zoo board. So if someone searches "Jinjo", they get all the posts and topics with "Jinjo" in a listing. Might scrap this idea.

Lame pog. It is difficult to capture the "pop" of the pog in this medium.

What's notable though is that this is my first LibreOffice Writer ASCII, as I figured an open-source platform for this might make the art format better in Notepad and hopefully HTML. Which leads to the topic of formatting!

If you didn't already know, GameFAQs ASCII is generally made in Word first and then moved to Notepad for editing, as Notepad's Arial 10 is roughly 1-to-1 with GameFAQs's Arial 10 (not sure if it's still 10, but even older ASCII can be viewed properly with the right zoom setting so 10 still works as good as anything else).

Unfortunately, Pog didn't make the transition.
