I have been wanting to open my own sneaker consignment shop for awhile now and have been looking at place for rent. The past few months I have been really getting more serious about it. I just want to be my own boss and work with sneakers. >.>

Anyone else have their own place?

Also I am bored working from home and need a distraction lmao

No to be a downer, but it's probably going to be pretty difficult to get a business loan for a physical location sneaker shop right now

On the bright side, you can go ahead and try to start an online business and build it from there

Not necessarily. It would just be a bad idea to overleverage yourself with with a lot of debt and overhead.

If you ever get to it, I do some freelance graphic design work if you go the route of a website or need a store logo/sign. It's my full time profession but I do side work also.

I aint getting a loan from no one. Money is not an issue. This aint happening tomorrow either, but it will happen one of these days because thats what I want to do. I would rather fail trying than die never attempting.

Funny enough I did just create a sneaker blog using squarespace if you ever used that. I think it looks pretty good but you would probably do better. I will keep you in mind lmao.

I rent 900 sq. ft, but the backroom takes up around 100-150 (small, so you won't actually have room to store a bunch of different sizes shoes).

Might be a bit tight if you're going to have a bunch of shoes like a regular retailer (like Vans, I dunno if that's normal, the only other place I buy shoes from is the Military Exchange)

Location matters. Visibility (close to other attractions or "pulls", not some tucked behind an alleyway) is important. (Store) Name is definitely helpful. Proximity and status to other competitors (and in your case, the internet will be involved too)

Pricing isn't that big of a factor, can be slightly more expensive than competitors if you offer great service. You need to offer something that people can't get by ordering off the internet.

Posted in someone's topic, I'm at the store 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. I don't have employees so I don't need to mess with scheduling or all the other stuff (although I do have a CPA to do payroll, taxes (business and personal), and stuff).

Thats actually really helpful. What business is it if you dont mind me asking?

I was looking for somewhere in the 500-800 square foot range to start. Small places around me have super small rent prices so thats easily affordable. Its just how small can I go, while still being able to do what I need to do. I saw a super nice one for 300 sq ft but thats like a garage size lmao.

Consignment shops is kinda like a pawn shop for sneakers. You sell them at my store, I sell them for a profit (which I do already) Or you can just give me your shoes and once I sell them you and I get our cuts.

Honestly the back room space is more important than the front because a lot of business is online these days. At least that is what I am seeing.

Tobacco, vape, and "Glass".
Due to the nature of the products, Amazon and Ebay aren't competitors. Brick and Mortar, and specialized internet retail sites are the two that I have to worry about (the latter not as bad of a threat, due to people being lazy and not wanting to provide proof of age to buy stuff online)

I have no experience with consignments stuff, so your knowledge on its needs is more valuable in finding the right place.
For my place, I looked at foot traffic, other stores ("pulls", which attracts people to the area) and competitors, price per sq. ft., existing infrastructure (lights, ac, number of wall outlets, etc.), and the like. Just general stuff.

Cool.

I'm personally intimidated at trying a hand in a business where online competition can be significant. Regular retail, people want the lowest prices, best quality, etc. and it's hard to compete against big sellers like Amazon/Walmart.
Niche can land you more success, and seeing as you're already familiar with how it works/pricing/selling, you already have some advantage/skill.
