i was raised this way and I learned to accept trans people for who they are, but I used to be very transphobic and I would probably want to punch the old me. Is there shitty views that you used to have that you don't anymore

Pretty much almost all of my conservative views from growing up in church. Abortion, gay marriage, gender identity and many social policies. Economy-wise, I'd still have a conservative view if the playing field was equal but it obviously isn't. I pretty much did a 180 around the 2016 election, but before that, had stopped going to church for about a year or two. I still consider myself a Christian but needed to remove myself from the environment so that I could think for myself. Christian and Republican have been melded together too much in this country to the detriment of both.

I once identified as a conservative Christian. K-12 Catholic school and 9-12 also being military probably contributed to that. I even voted for McCain.

I was clearly conditioned to think a certain way and it stopped taking as soon as I was away from all of it.

GOOD. At the same time, take pride in that you've overcome that shit. I feel like not many actually do. It's great that you were able to grow as a person and better yourself. You can also analyze what it was that made you think that way and how you went about changing. Sharing your story with others may do some good. So regretting the past is alright, but try not to dwell on it. Focus on the here and now. Takes a lot for someone to change their beliefs and also be able to admit they were wrong in the past. Good on ya TC.

The weird thing is that I am not 100% sure of what changed my views on this. I suppose seeing trans characters in shows and games gave me a more "human" view of them. That may sound a little weird. I also got friends who calmy explained what they psychologically live. It took me some time to change, but I'd say the calm and rational friends were the one who helped me change the most as we had 1 on 1 talk.

Yep, throughout the majority of my childhood I was a devout Southern Baptist with extreme religious/conservative/republican views when it came to a lot of social issues such as abortion, creation vs evolution, gun rights, gay marriages, seperation of church and state, etc. I would never taken the other side's point of view because I was told their ideas were from the devil himself. It wasn't until I started questioning my positions more and I started broadening up my horizon by meeting different people from different cultures did my ideology became a bit more liberal leaning.

With all that said, some of my closets friends are Christians and I hold no animosity towards any of them who believe in different stuff than me.

I'm starting to think it's just luck of the draw with regards to how you were born, that critical thinking can't really be taught, some people are inherently unchanging and stupid, and you were lucky to be born with the capacity for personal growth.

That's depressing. Uh, but no, you don't need to feel guilt over something you've overcome.
