https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/08/feds-kashkari-advocates-six-week-economic-lockdown-to-defeat-the-coronavirus.html

The U.S. economy needs an even more stringent shutdown than the last time if its going to defeat the coronavirus, Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari said. In a Friday New York Times op-ed he authored with Michael T. Osterholm, a professor and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, Kashkari argues that the government should issue a shelter-in-place order for everyone but the truly essential workers for up to six weeks.

Marchs lockdown, issued as the coronavirus became a pandemic, was not sufficiently stringent and has led to the U.S. lagging other stricter nations when it has come to containing Covid-19, they said. The result could make what we have experienced so far seem like just a warm-up to a greater catastrophe. To be effective, the lockdown has to be as comprehensive and strict as possible, Kashkari and Osterholm wrote. If we arent willing to take this action, millions more cases with many more deaths are likely before a vaccine might be available. In addition, the economic recovery will be much slower, with far more business failures and high unemployment for the next year or two. During the initial lockdown, the shuttering of American businesses led to the loss of at least 20 million jobs, only about half of which have been recovered during the restart. Congress stepped in with rescue funding that has swelled the national debt by $3 trillion to $26.5 trillion, and Kashkaris Fed also has expanded its balance sheet by nearly $3 trillion by lending and providing liquidity through various vehicles.

Lmao if Congress can't even pass $1,200 stimulus we aint getting shit if a 6 week lockdown were to happen. Best hope you can work from home or have an essential job are you are fucked.

Agreed but we have two political aisles and its an election year. So we are kinda fucked until after November and even then it possible the election gets called into question. Which would be terrible given the winter is when there is probably gonna be that second wave.

^ ALL THIS.
I remember back in March we went into a lockdown and all we had to do was stay indoors (or in some others cases, wear a mask and do social distancing) for a few weeks and we would have been good.
What happens?

Two weeks... TWO mother fucking weeks into quarantine, people are bitching and complaining and protesting about being locked down.... many over political reasons... which then causes a domino effect of shit show after shit show to happen.
And because it's a fucking election year, BOTH of the main political sides (and I am placing TONS of blame on BOTH sides) are playing a pissing contest with each other while people get sick and some are even dying.
What the flying fuck!!!

Even from a financial standpoint, I eventually got unemployment (TONS of extra money with it) a $1,200 stimulus check, and there are tons of ways to get financial assistance if one has a business or needs a little extra help.
But no, some people couldn't stand being in doors for more than two mother fucking weeks and decided to fuck everything up in multiple ways for everyone else (even resulting in others losing their unemployment as they were prematurely forced back to work in the middle of a fucking pandemic).

This coronavirus problem is a MEDICAL issue, this never should have been turned into a political issue. Because it got turned into a political issue, that's why this virus that should have vanished (or at least permanently flattened hard enough to the point of being irrelevant and rare) by the end of May is currently out of control and appears that it may get much worse and threatens to make more people sick and kill others.

Yes, in Tennessee, even places that have posted "mask required" maybe half of the people wearing masks. Businesses not requiring it maybe a fourth.

I've never ordered so much shit online in such a short period of time in my life.

Unfortunately this won't happen and even if it did it wouldn't matter. People didn't listen last time and won't listen this time. FFS people can't even wear a mask without bitching and crying about it.

This country spent way too much time and effort saying it was a fake virus, saying things like "but the flu!" and shit, and shifting blame around instead of actually taking any meaningful action to combat it.

Saddest part of all is because of the rampant stupidity everyone is paying for it and more are going to pay for it in the coming months.

Democrats were completely fine with shutting down for as long as necessary. Five states (all GOP governors) never shut down, and states like Florida/Arizona/Texas/Georgia (all GOP governors) shut down too late and reopened too early.

Especially schools. Some of the grade schools in Georgia are fucked up right now with a bit over 1,000 kids and teachers being quarantined very recently and it's only been two weeks of school over there so far in the districts that already opened. It will get much worse before August ends.
