This is a supercut of cute yuri moments from a tv show called The Owl House. It's not even subtle lol. And given how much LGBT stuff has become accepted now, there's a very good chance it becomes canon!

Which is nice since yuri is the purest form of love but.....isn't anyone noticing the lack of m/m pairing in these? They still seem rare. Why so many f/f now but still few m/m? >_>

Probably because of the female to male ratio of viewers.

Like check Twitter and you'd see

More appeal to the waifu-ers, for whom yuri is just bonus points.

Maybe some day m/m pairings will become as common as f/f, but for now I guess we can be happy that the latter is at least becoming "acceptable"

Seems to be strictly a cartoon thing. I notice when it comes to TV shows there's a lot more m/m and then there's even entire shows dedicated to mostly just m/m stories but I can't think of any TV show that is focused on f/f. Closest would be OitNB.

Because Korrasami opened the floodgates for canon lgbt pairings in children cartoons a few years ago, but it's mostly been lesbian pairings.

For anybody who wants to explore queer representation in kids' shows nowadays, this is a pretty good video about it: https://youtu.be/QuEAFf-CBFo?t=700

Timestamped to the most relevant part.

How much suggestion counts? Like, there's a lot of cartoons where some guy could reasonably be gay but it's not explicit like Korrasami.

However I've noticed that all these pairings involve bisexual women. Shame but whatev, prolly easier to get on the air.

The CW is a major exception here, particularly in their superhero shows. F/F is very common, while M/M is almost inexistent.

Yes, because all gay people are Tumblr people, oh how could I have forgotten. What next, should we get rid of PoC too since that was the previous step in people wanting representation?

That's because gay male superheroes are themselves rare. The most popular one CW has rights to is Alan Scott and since Stargirl got a show I'm sure Alan Scott is on the table but it hasn't happened yet.

Apparently criticizing the shift in animation towards weeb style ships that only older people would care about and away from making an actually funny cartoon for kids means you hate gay people.

CW's flirtation with m/m has been interesting. There was just a neutered, obligatory kind of vibe with Mr. Terrific but then Constantine brought an actual vibe to it. I feel like m/m won't gain any real ground on networks until they see how it's its own sexuality and not a pandering reskin of m/f. It'll never have the marketability of f/f tho

You miss the point entirely.

Yes, older people watch these shows, but normalizing gay characters and undoing the damage that stigmatization has done for decades is important for kids growing up now, regardless of their sexuality.

Yes, people will always be terrible to people that are different, but the more it's normalized the less people will be openly homophobic. And for the people who identify with these characters, it makes them feel less "different" while growing up, they feel less and less of an outsider when they realize it's not something they should be ashamed of.

And even Alan Scott was only gay in one iteration that nobody payed attention to and only lasted a couple of years. Combined with the show being largely run by Geoff John's, a dude who was the primary writer of the original version of Alan Scott for the last two decades, means we probably aren't getting the gay version of the character.

That said, I would not be shocked given the show's emphasis on legacy JSA members, if we did end up getting Alan Scott's son, Todd aka Obisdian, who is gay in every incarnation he has ever been depicted.
