Nobody ever says anything bad about Gen X.

No one says anything about Gen X, period. They are the Forgotten Generation. They are about to be the ones in power though.

here's my one-minute theory on this:

when we were kids, it was still frowned upon to express interest in nerdy things and it led us to be repressed. now with the internet self-expression and acceptance has made a lot of headway and the repression has led people to overemphasize their interests from when they were kids.

that's all

I'm 31 and the girl I'm talking to is 23, her and her friends are way more fun to chill with than my friends, who are in general far more serious and cynical. I think there's a time and a place, but if you can't change things you gotta find a way to enjoy your life. She has the ability to smile through her depression where a lot of people my age allow themselves to suffer in defeat. I really admire her, she's more sensible and mature than I could have imagined when I approached her.

I think this theory has a lot of merit. I was being a little facetious with my post, but I do get tired of always having fandom shit shoved down my throat. I like things, but I don't like talking about them for hours, I'd rather be having real experiences than recounting fiction.

i've encountered the theory that while millennials and zoomers were both avid consumers of media, zoomers were so hyperstimulated that they metaphorically burnt out their dopamine receptors early, went full circle, and went in a more productive direction, however unorthodox those routes by older standards.

though coming of age in an era of insecurity across the board - economic, societal, political - it seems they have to be far more conscious of risks and opportunities in life and society, and thus must be cognizant of what trends may be driving them. i suppose it has forced them to be more well-rounded and more prone to calculated risk-taking much sooner, which contrasts with the millennial expectation of stability and security, reflecting their childhoods and adolescences in the comparatively more stable 80s-00s.

Its ironic because they are viewing millennials from a purely internet social media standpoint because thats all gen z apparently knows to evaluate people.

Those millennials that use and revolve their lives around social media are just a percent and are the idiot percent of any generation.

Millennials that are in the typical 9-5 job (which is a bad thing?) arent posting about their lives because they dont care about that shit and hence why you wont here about them getting new house, car, etc. So its like it doesnt exist to the internet leashed Gen z.

But I definitely like the zoomer whore women. Thanks!

Life without internet consisted of one of two things

introverts: staying inside and watching TV/playing video games

extroverts: interacting with siblings/neighbors/friends outside of the house

the introverts went on to be Reddit posters/Twitch streamers, while the extroverts went on to be Instagram influencers/wannabe YouTube personalities

Yeah that's a complete farce

Think about it. If she's 16 that means she was 2 years old when the Nintendo Wii came out. She wasn't even alive when Spongebob was in its prime. So she couldn't have grown up with the same things that people on the younger end of the millennial generation grew up with

But I kinda get it though. They're teenagers. Teenagers hate being talked down to and treated like they're babies, and they always think they're older and relate more to adults than they really are and do. It's a phase everyone goes through.

Spongebob has never really gone off the air yeah?

Also I grew up with the SNES and Mega Drive and I was even younger for those. Wii was a popular family console that had a lot of sales so that actually does add up. Looking it up the Mega Drive is actually older than me and that was my first console heh.

I think the thing that's unique to this new generation is thanks to the internet they can technically grow up with whatever they or their parents want.

I mentioned that they would've only been 2 when the Wii came out to highlight that they wouldn't have been able to grow up with the big systems that came out before it that a millennial would've. N64, Dreamcast, PS1, Game Boy Advance, etc. If PS2 wasn't active for over a whole decade that would've been on the list too

And that's just video games and TV. There's plenty more cultural advancements and changes where that came from. Someone born in 2004 certainly wouldn't know what life was like before the smartphone.

Ah I see what you mean now.

i was just thinking about this since logos and tv and stuff used to be so much better in like 1991 and then around the time survivor season one premiered society went to shit. we had the rug pulled out from under us because soulless boomers finished their takeover of corporate pop culture marketing and immediately sold it out to the rising equally soulless cgi industry. and if we acknowledge this we're told were just being nostalgic so it's a double gaslight
