I'm 31 and your family must have just been very early adopters, the internet wasn't at all widespread when we were very young. Even for folks who had it, it took up your phone line so they didn't use it nearly as much as we do. People still called each other back then.

yea. I am 39. my family didn't get online til like 1995 or 1996 when I was like 14 or 15. he must have been one of those people around 1990 who got online. technically there were even people online in the 80s but it was super rare. like even in a huge city there would be maybe a handful of people people online

These are hilarious. Especially the out of touch 23 year old at the end, that doesn't seem to realize that the youngest millennials right now are 24.

That's because a lot of people tend to forget about Gen X. They go from millennial straight to boomers.

The youngest Millenials are 19 turning 20 this year. Millenial years are 1982-2000. The Pew Research Center decided to fuck things up by attention whoring and made their own claim to seem special of 1981-1996 even though pretty much everyone else had been using the other years for decades.

One thing I do wonder if it will be unique to Millennials is our heavy attachment to stuff we grew up with. The previous generations didn't seem to care that much compared to us. I wonder if the next one will.

I think social media is more of a bigger reason for this though so I don't think it will change. A 16 year old not caring about stuff they perceived for kids was common for our generation too until we sort of flipped it as liking whatever you want is still mature. So I don't think it will change. If anything they probably will just like the same stuff we do because there's not much new stuff to take their place. Especially with movies.

no, those are zoomers. The general consensus for the end of millennials and start of zoomers is the mid to late 90's.

If you were born in the year 2000, you're way past the threshold and are officially classified as Gen Z

I used the Pew Research Center's age ranges because the article included her as a Gen Z'er.

But yeah, if we use the 82 to 2000 range, then she herself would be a millennial.

The Silent Generation is '28-'45

Boomers are '46-'64

Gen X is '65-'80 or '81

Gen Z ends in sometime around the early 2010's, and is the start of Gen Alpha

why would Gen Y all of a sudden have a full 19 or 20 years and Gen Z all of a sudden only have like 10 or 11 years?

That guy trying to claim '81-2000's for Millennials is just making up shit.

I think a big discrepancy is that most Millenials have some idea of what things were like before 9-11 and the several economic disasters weve gone through.

COVID/Trump is the first real one for Gen Z to experience as adults, and some of the older ones might remember some stuff from before 07/08, but not as adults.

Being stuck in the middle, as it were, has colored a lot of the general tropes Millenials fall under.

No, Millenials are 82-2000. It is the years literally almost all groups and people that do generational research were using for decades. It is also the years the official U.S. Census Bureau uses. It wasn't until fucking 2019 that Pew goes "oh btw Millenials are 81-96!" So they waited until the generation AFTER Millenials to say what Millenials were? Because that makes sense. The only reason Pew did that was because it wasn't an election year. No one pays attention to them when its not an election year, so they needed some way to get attention. Now for whatever stupid reason a lot of the media keeps using their dates even though the other dates had been used for literally decades. Everyone else already established 82-2000 long before Pew ever said anything.

It wasn't posted before I started writing. Either way it still proves me right. I said the CB uses 82-2000, which they do. I never claimed there is official legal years for each generation. And in that regard, the choice is an official government entity or a company that takes surveys, which do you think is the better choice?
