99.9% of police encounters do not need to have a firearm present for any reason. The police can do their job just as effectively if not better if they are given just tasers instead of guns. This is the type of change that needs to happen if we are actually going to do something about the ridiculousness of theses officers abusing their power.

Clothing can block tasers pretty easily. Wear a jacket or a few layers. Gives the person with the gun the power to do what they want.

I disagree... they should have small calibre rifles since a small penetrating wound to pretty much anywhere will stop anyone in pain

an example would be the MP7's 4bies

and are less likely to break bone (IE: the skull or ribs)

Take away their Glocks with massive magazines and give them a 6-shot single-action revolver like the Colt Single Action Army. It's a much more accurate weapon, and because it's single action you can't just start spraying bullets, the hammer must be manually cocked for each shot. You only get 6 shots (well, 5 if you keep the chamber under the hammer empty, though some modern versions of the SAA have a transfer bar making this unnecessary), and reloading is a slow process that must be done one round at a time, so you have to make each shot count.

Another option might be to not allow cops to carry a gun on their person, only a taser and/or baton. Their sidearm would be kept locked in their vehicle so it would still be available in case they are called to a shootout or bank robbery or whatever, which is basically what they do with their shotguns.

A shot with a paintball gun would be just as effective as a regular gun. Most of the criminals are guys so just shoot them in a certain spot with a paintball. Guaranteed to stop them. Use taser on women.

You people are painfully slow. Tasers have a really short range and barely actually connect even in that range. And LOL at this dude saying a paintball to the nuts would stop an armed gunman. You can easily find videos of shootouts where the suspect literally gets shot in the abdomen multiple times and still gets up to shoot at officers. That's exactly why cops shoot people so many times.

The natural competition would be to form a counter-union... I mean, this can't happen with police since police are technically a monopoly, but like if there was a Fast Food Workers Union and it got too powerful, instead of shutting down entirely the companies would hire non-union people who in turn could form a counter-union to underbid the main union while also getting more benefits than non-union people.
