Govenor Greg Abbott is outraged and is calling for the FIRING of a Junior High School Teacheer after they gave an assignment on a cartoon that compared Police to horrific figures.

An email from the principal to parents said the teacher wated to provide students with current events to analyze the Bill of Rights as some parents did not have a problem with it and said it was taken out of context

One parent said the lesson was necessary because it sparked a difficult conversation

Joe Gamaldi, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police tweeted the graphic and said it was abhorrent and disgusting and only further widens the gap between police and youth

Abbot then weighed in and demanded the teacher be fired for comparing heroic police to such horrible figures and said "The teacher should be fired. I'm asking the Texas Education Agency to investigate and take action".

Wylie School District apologized and is aware of the social studies lesson taught that included the politcal cartoons that have been divisive and said it's not part of their curriculum resources or documents and it has been removed.

About the fact we really need to screen our teachers better if this is the shit they're doing? Granted, part of the problem is that nearly half of all teachers are from the bottom third of their graduating class. Should we really be surprised when terrible students become terrible teachers?

Frankly, any social studies course that doesn't examine controversial contemporary works of art really isn't doing its job. Students are supposed to be studying society, and controversial current events are a part of that society. If the teacher's presenting this cartoon and saying "this cartoon summarizes how all police are evil," then that's poor teaching, but assigning students the cartoon to analyze is exactly what a good teacher should be doing.
