Well?

Because I played all of the Tales games, its option 4 for me. The missables in Vesperia especially got on my nerves.

How do you feel about it tho CE?

I don't like them. Especially when the only way I'd know about them is if I spoiled myself and looked everything up beforehand because of some complicated procedure to get them, or insane RNG.

I think there's something wrong with ya if you think all games should cater to one specific type of gamer, the OCD collector.

That would be like if all Ubisoft games were exactly the same.

Which would be lame.

I wouldn't say I prefer all games to have them or anything, but as long as they're not important story content or crucial items for playing the game effectively I can't say I really mind

Lmao

On topic, I don't mind mutually exclusive, choice based lockouts or missing some random gear that will never be relevant end game. But it's a nice plus if there is some end game method to get everything.

I don't mind some one offs here in there but I do hate when a game has some big narrative shift that makes a whole slew of side-quest become impossible. Like I get it, well-made sidequest should feel connected to the world. I get that sometimes the story is going to progress to the point where certain side-quest no longer make sense, but at least give some sort of disclaimer before you cross that narrative that some quest will become unavailable after this point. That way people can either go back and see if there are anything they want to knock off or at least make a new save before they move on.

This. It does feel nice to find something cool in a game by being thorough that not everybody playing would necessarily find.

not a big deal if you KNOW something's missable going into an area and you should make sure to find it

As much as I like The Surge 2, the devs can seriously fuck off with how much shit is missable with no indication of how to get it besides looking online

it's not the creators' fault that people have a compulsive need to find absolutely everything
things being mutually-exclusive and limited can make for variety in experiences, whether between players or between playthroughs

i don't like them. dragon's dogma is notorious for this. there's this item that grants 30% off everything at shops + access to exclusive items at shops, but this missable item is guaranteed to be missed unless you read a strategy guide

Lame, but if a game has one or two non important ones it's not a big deal. Devs don't need to bend over backwards to prevent them entirely.

There's a couple annoying ones in the tales series, but newgame+ partially makes up for that

I don't mind missables, if they're not stupidly overkill. When I think of ridiculous missables, my mind goes to Tales of Vesperia and the Brionac. I don't know how you'd find that without a guide.

You need to view a dozen or so, very time specific side events over the course of the game, in order to obtain the Brionac. Miss even one and you won't get it in that playthrough.

As long as you can still get 100% no matter what you do (if the game even tracks it), then I'm fine with it

Or if it's a more choice oriented and mutually exclusive thing

I like them and want more of them and I want them especially to be the best of the best loot and even to lock off quests and other story bits if appropriate.

Hard choices = good. Collector OCD = not.

And on top of that, I even advocate for Either/Or missables. (literally impossible to legit 100% a single playthrough)

Like, you enter the final Super Secret Temple (hit all the missable hidden switches throughout the game) you have a choice between The Uberest Sword, or The Uberest Staff, and can only take 1 before the temple collapses.

Plussss, I want a few of these bits (both story and loot, not all, just a few (maybe even key) ones) to only be openable on the hardest difficulty mode. (if the game has a difficulty selector)

But I am ok with all this loot being transferable in a New Game+ if the game has that option. (and also ok with it not, if the game designer deems that best)

Also I prefer when games give you, say, 50 different upgrades to get, and only give you like 13 total upgrade points to use. (hard choices, no, you don't get exactly 50 upgrades points to get everything)
