Ys 8 was such a massive step forward for the franchise in terms of production values and ESPECIALLY story. Seriously holy crap Ys 8's story was so much better than it had any right to be.

I wound up legitimately missing the characters by the end of it.

I beat Celceta on PS Vita. Great game, but not as good as Lacrimosa of Dana.

Trails of Cold Steel isn't Ys. Same developer, sure.

Looks cool, seems a bit darker and grittier than 8.

Looking forward to this a lot. I started playing Ys for the first time earlier this year and it's been a blast! So far nothing's been able to topple my love for Felghana, but I'm only halfway through Seven and still have VIII left.

its also the opposite of ys in that its making the series progressively worse

anyway my hype level is thru the roof because ys8 was my fav game of 2017 by a gigantic margin

I suggest it because you were so into the story of Ys 8. But if you aren't into turn based stuff then don't bother

I think Memories of Celceta takes place right after Felghana so if you haven't give that one a shot too. Though it was made after 7 so it may make 7 look a little archaic

Edit: my reading comprehension is bad

just play the games in release order, there is no reason to play them chronologically barring 1/2 for obvious reasons since all the stories are largely self contained

Oh yeah, Celceta was already beaten. Oddly enough, I'm enjoying Seven more than it so far lol. I enjoyed exploring the map in Celceta but overall I found the environments kind of bland.

celceta was a mishmash remake of ysiv which by itself wasnt even that good of a game so thats why it feels so bland

seven came after falcom hit their stride with origin so its very much better overall

It doesn't help that I really just miss the Origin engine games that have more platforming and solo Adol, tbh. The bosses felt different in those ones, too. Makes me wonder what they're going to do when they finally remake Lost Kefin.
