I'm messing around with Morrowind and it got me thinking how people would react now if some mechanics were brought back to ES6. I mean my "spoiled" comment in the least condescending way.

- What if stats were brought back and we were locked out of some quests for not meeting stat checks? Like if you rolled warrior-centric class you won't be head of the mages guild as easily. You'll need to beef up your magic skills first!

-Being able to kill essential NPCs that can mess with quests?

Some things I understand like mark/recall.

The NPC thing I think should be a setting you can choose for yourself, but I'd really like to see Bethesda games have proper stat checks and shit

Most "online only" games don't shine too bright if the series is mostly SP.

That being said, I lost hope after Skyrim.

It's not "terrible" just pretty mindless and shallow.

that is one of my biggest pet peeves with modern games - now everything is so over-engineered that you can never mess up your build, you never miss out on anything, so basically games where you build a character amount to nothing more than "do I want to buy move X now or buy move X later". it makes everything really bland, what is the point of stats and skill trees and that shit if it all leads to the same place?

Bring back stat gates for different factions.

And I don't want to be able to be the head of any faction unless there is really good narrative reason behind the brand new member to take over.

Have factions have their own politics. With membership in one faction potentially locking you out of others.

You know what. Add race gating. Take Skyrim for instance. I should not be able to enter Windhelm if I'm an Argonian or an Altmer. If I want to go in there, I should need to use an illusion spell or some sort of disguise.

Basically I want your decisions in the character making process to actually effect how NPC react to you.

You know for sure that if they tried to emulate more of Morrowinds design in ES6 the same people they bitch that Dark Souls needs an easy mode would be sitting there not understanding a damn thing about game design. Asking moronic fuckin questions like why is there no compass? Why do I have to listen to NPCs for vague and misleading directions to my objectives?

I personally don't mind optional compasses but yes. Factions should feel a little more political like the various morrowind houses.

I don't like this "master of all, do no wrong" stuff open world games have now.

Dark Souls does not need an easy mode, the people saying that are idiots

People who defend the dumbing down of TES mechanics over the years are likewise wrong
