It's being put on rotation like Warframe, and they're adding back in Destiny 1 content for free. Nothing is being "deleted"

They're actually going with the half assed rotation of content that Monster Hunter does now

i.e. get to play certain content at the developers discretion

You can get destiny 2 free along with warmind, and curse of Osiris expansion picked up from Amanda Holliday.

Expansions that cost money are Forsaken (tangled shore and dreaming city worlds) and Shadowkeep (moon)

But they dont have the player base to support everything, obviously, because they keep making dumb decisions and their game is just a grindfest.

The problem with Destiny is that the direction and progression of content is absolutely indecipherable to players who either haven't played it at all or haven't played it in a long time.

It's a complete mess.

New expansion comes out in November. Couple planets are going to vanish. Some gear is power capped after this season (you can see which ones will be good to future proof) 1060 is soft cap this season and gear and weapons with those right now will be obsolete next season. Couple of raids are leaving too

Someone can go into more detail than me but thats a brief summary

A bunch of old locations and activities that barely anyone plays are being temporarily removed from the game. They will be worked on in the background and brought back updated later. Basically older content with very low player bases will continually rotate in and out of the game, along with Destiny 1 content.

its also nice that they are doing this because it changes the meta and what weapons and stuff will be used.

The recluse and revoker too very popular pinnacle weapons will not be future proofed

Destiny 2 was super confusing for me, I played it for the first time after it went F2P and it just starts you off with all your character abilities unlocked and no explanation on how to play through the game's actual plot. Also for some reason it has you go through the intro sequence from Destiny 1?

wtf entire planets. i don't know much about the game, but that sounds like it's affecting me as a new player pretty hard.

Might not be a problem as I thought. I planned to play the story mode, most likely solo, because I don't know anyone who will play with me. I did that with Borderlands 2.

There is new content coming to the game. New planet. New campaign. New raids. New subclass

Now this directly affects me. Why are they removing the base game? Did the story suck or something

From a forsaken player returning to see whats up, i agree, VERY confusing. I did all the raids and content that will be gone in November so that part doesn't bother me, but everything is so non cohesive and messy.

and force them play crucible more and keep them busy with more bounties, add an emblem, a worthless exotic and a new starting cut scene and call that the update

And find what other things people are having fun with (titan/warlock skating etc) and take that away too! I only want people doing bounties, crucible, and gambit! I DONT WANT PEOPLE HAVING FUN"

1000 hours in D2 and I feel like thats the devs main goal

(Speaking about Warframe) It probably is, and I wont try to make that out to be a good thing, but with the way weapons are balanced, you can choose to tackle things and power up just about any way you want to.

Destiny seems to really want you to do things in a particular order. It makes things clearer, but a little less of a choice. Give and take on either side of things.

Only thing I hate that I missed out on is that my felwinters quest vanished.

Fomo is always brought up but in a loot based game can you really expect to acquire everything in the game? Sucks you can't get like thunderlord or something but the people who got it enjoy it and you probably have weapons that I haven't been able to get

I hope this isnt a real thing. Ive tried to stay neutral on Destiny 2 after being pretty clearly butthurt about the lack of transfer from Destiny 1's "ten year plan", but man this would be a stupid decision.

To be 100% honest. I don't care if they bring it back updated or forget most of it exists. I know it kinda sucks that new players wouldn't be able to go back and play old stuff, but most new players just want to play the new stuff anyway. Same reason WoW gives level boosts so you can jump right in to the newest expansion. For an evolving game, new stuff is better than supporting old stuff for eternity.
I also believe that weapon sunsetting and level caps should've been a thing since day 1 so there's that too.

You can still get Thunderlord btw, just not the quest for it.

It's not about the install size but more about the development cycle, specifically testing. The game is filled with so much spaghetti code and so many different activities and systems that every time they add new stuff they have to test more and more and more and it's gotten past the point where it isn't viable to keep adding forever without removing stuff. That's why there have been so many bugs and glitches over the past year.

Also Destiny 1's "ten year plan" was never just Destiny 1 supported for 10 years. It was in their contract with Activision, a game every other year with a "comet" expansion (Taken King/Forsaken) in the interim years going from Destiny 1 to Destiny 5. The "ten year plan" was supporting the franchise for 10 years which Bungie wants to do longer but that involves rotating out old content from time to time.

I'm hoping it will be fixed with this realm reborn style sequel of theirs, but when it comes to indecipherable grind Phantasy Star Online 2 has both of them beat. Plus it has the added bonus of having way too many currencies and possibly the worst menuing system in all of modern gaming.
