I realized I put in full days at work on Labor Day and thanksgiving last year while taking PTO those days (I have a pool, all my PTO and vacation and sick are combined), and will probably this year also.

I used to cash it in all the time when I got less than 40 hours a week, but typically I reserve it for vacations now days.

Im a social worker and could open myself up to a lot of liability if I did that. No thank you. If Im off, the work computer and phone are off too.

Sometimes, if an issue crops up and they need my help. At which point I can have the vacation hours returned to me, or I can just cash them out (which I normally do).

when i was they always gave us floating holidays if we ended up working on those days
