I bought the game off steam not too long ago. It's pretty wild in that it doesn't hold your hand. I had to redo my game cause the first group of apes kept getting eaten by lions and snakes and stuff.

i remember seeing it in an e3 presentation and thinking it looked neat but then never saw anybody do any coverage or criticism of it

It looks interesting conceptually and has been on my radar, but everything I've read sort of indicates that it falls way short of its potential and the actual gameplay is kind of basic. Also I read that you have to start completely from scratch if your group dies which is a bit of a slog

I platinum'd it when it released. As soon as you get the hang of it everything else feels quite intuitive. Once you're able to carry stuff in both hands and have the other apes mimic your actions it becomes quite easy. Had to restart 2 times in the first few hours. Every subsequent playthrough has been a breeze.
