I can't blame them for it, but I think it's a damn shame and sad nonetheless. No kids, SO, job. I will say it seems like people didn't really take BLM seriously until recent events, though.

No. Anyone who does is a monster. Even excluding the possibility setting a building or car on fire could lead to the death of someone unknowingly inside or a firefighter attempting to put it out, they're otherwise damaging and ruining the livelihood of others at the benefit of nothing.

are you able to put yourselves in the position of innocent people who have their livelihoods ruined and potentially have their children be worse off?

Nope

Analogous to "would you imprison an innocent man to prevent a guilty man from walking free?" Imo

Im somewhat ok at property damage if it is something relevant like damaging a cop car in an anti cop protest. Not ok with innocent businesses being damaged.

That said im pretty sure history supports non violent protests as being consistently more effective, so its really not in the protestors best interests either

I dont think it was peaceful protesting people had a problem with but rather protesting the flag and what it stands for. But I didnt really have a problem with that so youd have to ask the people who cared.

if you ask which people prefer Ill bet they dont want the one that involves destroying innocent peoples livelihoods

A lot of news consumption is based on stoking fears.

"Yup, everything is fine" doesn't generate revenue. It could be able a severe weather event, or a lot of things associated with COVID. A lot of people who gobble up shit and spam f5 are anxious. You could have a protest with 200,000 people and the media* will focus on a broken window from 1 protester.

*not a monolith, and in the era of twitter just about everything is "news". It's all media.

I don't think it's a particularly interesting or unique point. You can't have capitalism without racism and inequality, so some businesses are complicit in it. Generally the bigger and more profit driven the worse

I think its interesting because a non innocent business could have innocent people working for it and their lives would be ruined by destruction

but your qualifiers were too vague. When does a business become guilty?

at what degree of wealth do you lose the right to not have your shit burned down, and how do the protestors know who's shit to burn down?

vigilante/mob justice isn't justice, and supporting it is directly at odds with any goal of equal justice.

Yes when directed at relevant targets (in this case, police precincts, court houses, other various buildings involved in the criminal justice system that we're trying to reform) or when the cops provoke the violence by instigating otherwise peaceful protesters by gassing them or shooting at them.

Otherwise, no. If you're only there to loot random stores or to be violent from the start, you're not helping the cause.

I'm right there with you.

We live in a society that respects property, not human lives.

If it allows for people to understand that this is an out of control problem in the US then Is support the message getting across.

It's not senseless, people are upset and nobody cares unless property is damaged.

gotcha - I would have to ask you for evidence that violent revolution is justified at the moment.

i think the case for 1776 is stronger than for 2020 on moral grounds.

i think it was more uniformly believed in 1776 that violent revolution was justified

i think there were legal rules on the books which people could point to and say it justified violent revolution

otherwise we have politicians who can literally change laws we dont like. not doing it? vote for someone else. not enough people agree with you to vote in enough people to make the change you want? welcome to democracy.

Let's just assume we're talking about only large companies with empty buildings:
Employees missing out on necessary hours while it is closed.
The employees of the company who may lose their jobs if the location moves or closes.
Local vendors who rely on the company buying from them.
Local service people who rely on the company for a large percentage of their business.
Local residents who rely on it as the closest means of shopping, especially those who cannot travel far without difficulties.
