Current Events > Mulan (2020) was an okay film.

Was it worth $30? Only if you're planning on watching it with more than a couple of folks, to make it more like a "cinema" experience. If just for yourself, nope... because you probably won't rewatch this (there's no real re-watch value).

Likes:
*I watched this with a mainland Chinese person, and he said the set design, clothing, symbols, edicts, "chi", loyal/brave/true/devotion to family, and Rouran are all real and very accurate. This was extremely surprising to me (I didn't know "chi" was a real concept; thought it was some bullshit that Westerners made up).
*Definitely better than the "live" action films that Disney has been making lately, which is a carbon copy of the animation.
*Set design / clothing are so colorful and beautiful to look at. Definitely need a big screen.

Dislikes:
*Mulan is just born with all her greatness (she has great "chi"); she's just hiding it because she's a woman.
*Mulan is a boring character... 95% of her acting is just stoic-like, with no facial expression. Hell, there's a scene where she does a flip over a bad guy, and she just looks bored.
*Action scenes are sort of lackluster. You see thousands of Rourans descending upon the hundreds of Chinese, and the camera just shifts to Mulan and like 5 other riders who go away from battle. I expected like Troy-like action with grand battles... but nope.
*The witch's story arch is sort of disappointing. Her last act made me laugh though (it wasn't supposed to be funny).

Overall, just an okay film. Maybe 6/10.

It's a lot more accurate than the cartoon, minus the witch and Mulan's superpowers.
