I mean yeah Vanillite is an ice cream cone and Trubbish is a trash bag, but they're cute, and a lot of Pokemon designs are just a bird or just a pile of puke or whatever so I don't really see the problem?

I prefer the animal-like Pokemon more but those two lines are alright. Chandelure is one of my favorites, though.

The best Pokemon designs fall into one of two categories. Either really cute and derpy like Bidoof or Lurantis, or really cool looking like Scizor.

Because they look like human made objects. That makes them dumb to people. I don't even like them on the basis that they look like man made items.

I very much prefer the animal like appearances of all the pokemon excluding those two and anything like those two.

Do you really need it explained to you why people have objections to manmade objects being members of a type of animal that was just established in the previous generation to be created by an equine deity millions of years before humans existed, and NOT a mentally deficient 5 year old which is who you'd expect to come up with such awful designs?

Do you really need it explained to you why radioactive sludge becoming animate is easier to accept than living trash bags? Especially given Gen 1's heavy Godzilla and Ultraman influences? (They're a Hedorah homage.)

Do you really need it explained why Gen 5 and Gen 8's more cartoony art styles clash horribly with the established anime art style which the human characters are still subject to? (N in particular was anime as fuck. And then..... he sends out fucking Vanilluxe.)

Oh, here's a kicker. Vanilluxe is based off of a BRITISH ice cream cone that I'm pretty sure you can't even find over here, even though Unova is supposed to be PokAmerica. They really couldn't get ANYTHING right in Gen 5.

Grimer is adorable so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Muk looks pretty solid... for a liquid.

Plus Alolan Grimer has that derpy aesthetic you seem to like so much and A-Muk looks awesome. Regardless, the Grimer family fills the traditional slime trope of RPGs

Gen 5 truly was terrible. The whole generation was pretty fucking bad... although at least Drilbur/Excadrill were neat.

It's a /vp/ meme that James Turner isn't capable of designing a Pokemon. Every Pokemon he has designed has been extremely unpopular. James Turner is also blamed for part of Game Freak's downward trajectory, along side Masuda and Ohmori which were the masterminds behind SwSh.

*Although I don't know if he designed Trubbish, de did design the Vanillite family.

Aside from that, I don't really like most Pokemon after Gen 2 or 3. It's probably because I grew up with Gen 1 to 3. But part of it is the new style direction the series took. This picture sums it up really well:

Keep in mind that in the US we tend to use the word "garbage" or "trash" instead of "rubbish" so that connection isn't there either.

...I was kinda expecting him to be behind all of the bad designs, but he did Trevenant which I really liked as well as Golurt & whatever which were okay designs.

The vulture egg thing was stupid, though, and Vanilla is one of the series' worst designs.

idk, Vulpix would be pretty cute either way although I greatly prefer the older style. Likewise Krabby is cute either way... and actually pidgey looks good as well. However, I think I like the old style more for the new Pokemon.

However, the ratio of liked designs to indifferent to disliked designs changes every generation. Gen 5 had very few designs I liked and tons of designs I disliked, whereas other generations there it was more a mix of likes and indifferents.

For me, it depends on the object. A piece of furniture, for example, makes a lot of sense because it's a permanent object (and ties into the old belief that objects passed down over a long period of time can develop a spirit). A trashbag makes far less sense, because it's not a lasting object... and an ice cream cone makes no sense because it's a consumable.

If we're going by the assumption that new Pokemon can spring up based on things in the environment, or that some Pokemon can evolve in new ways than the typical lines, then anything is on the table.

But even Magnemite kinda bothered me as kid

I like that the one bird type Pokemon has a head bigger than it's body, it reminds me of the Bratz dolls that The Onion made a hilarious video about.

Yeah. But it's still not that uncommon. And some people have used it when joking around and stuff. That being said, I use to watch a lot of british shows, so maybe that's why I'm use to it... But I really didn't think it was that hard to put together. Especially with the amount of people that complained about it...

Oh, they are doing new stuff (not that video, mind you). Had been wondering about it. In general, I'm impressed by the extent to which they go to pull these jokes, like creating the fake pamphlets, fake PSA ads, etc as props.

EDIT: Apparently the newer Onion videos lack that kind of craftsmanship. Pretty disappointed there.

Tbh I personally think Trubbish is adorable in a gross way, but agree that Garbodor is just straight garbage.
