Do you believe the "trolls" are gone from Gamefaqs?

Gizmodo lists the top 100 websites that shaped the internet for better or worse..and it listed Gamefaqs as #67 for doing that..but it also made a subtle dig stating many of the users of the websites are now gone from the site leaving it bare..even the TROLLS are gone it says...

Do you think that's true?

67. GameFAQs (1995)
Famous for its message boards almost as much as for its countless user-made game guides, GameFAQs was one of the first petri dishes of internet culture. Many a meme and young troll were spawned from the crevices of its Life, Universe and Everything (LUE) social board, which first prompted heavy moderating and eventually a complete ban for newer members.

Though GameFaqs still exists today, most people have seemingly moved on, even the trolls.

Yeah GameFAQs definitely has not kept up with the times. I love it here, but yeah it's definitely stuck in some very old design.

GameFAQs has died for the same reason many sites have died. Internet users tend to prefer "all in one" sites like Reddit or Facebook to connect to similar interests. Video walkthroughs on YouTube have likely done their share of damage to GameFAQs, too.

I feel like the internet feels smaller than ever now, despite being larger than ever. It's strange.

Yes.

No one actually wants to troll this website anymore. Especially when so many that remain have their feelings hurt too easily. (Especially the Nintendo zealots.) Actual trolls don't want such easy prey.

Plus, the word has lost all meaning when this website has basically reduced it to mean "anyone who disagrees with me".

This board has many trolls. The "ok" is a clue.

I feel the same way. The internet has become a few soulless dystopian megacities with a few trash slums clinging to life.

Neither one is a good resource. Personally, I put more blame on wikis (as well as YT) for undermining Gamefaq's utility since wikis are going to be more useful for guiding players which was the big thing bringing people to this site in the first place. Without that utility, all you have left are the boards.

Things like reddit are just straight-up garbage as a resource and, honestly, Reddit's shitty format makes it garbage as a social platform as well. It's a site that will be relegated to the dustbin of history as its userbase ages out and new users gravitate towards more user-friendly platforms. (While Facebook is being massively undercut by IG in terms of new users, it still picks up an older crowd because of its somewhat more user-friendly format and massive userbase. It's also bigger in developing nations.)

Not to mention that the claim about Gamefaqs being "dead" is silly, considering it still attracts a large amount of traffic -- far more than countless other sites

Most wikis suck for information still. They're either not detailed enough or make it too complex to reach the proper pages if you need a guide since they don't know how to do links correctly.

Reddit just sucks because of how the commenting works. You'd never be able to see every comment on a page because of the formatting.

Which is still many times more than many other active sites get. It's kind of a weird standard that something can stay small its entire existence and be regarded as completely healthy yet something else that gets a brief surge in popularity over a decade ago and has been a smaller, but still large size can be seen as dead.
