21 y/o Tik Tok Star, Charly Jordan from Los Angeles apologized for travelling at the "incorrect time" to RWANDA to save GORILLAS but she also slammed African Authorities who detained her when she tested POSITIVE for COVID-19 and was separated from her friends and isolated in a hotel room...even though 4 days later it was determined it was a FALSE POSITIVE!!

She's a member of the TikTok group Clubhouse and went to Rwanda to work with a gorilla conservation group and in an emotional video said she DID test positive for the virus 4 months ago butsaid she was negative before coming and claimed to have took 100,000 TESTS to be sure she wasn't bringing it with her and took several safety measures to ensure that

But when she arrived she apparently tested positive and said "I got 100,000 tests afterwards to make sure i was negative. I flew to Rwanda, Africa, 5 days ago and just go there and tested positive"

The video has since been set to private but it was reshared on twitter and was slammed for even travelling there

The CDC recommends people avoid nonessential travel to most countries including Rwanda

Jordan said she cried for hours and hyperventilated after being in isolation and said "Literally the f****** government showed up at my place and dragged me away from everybody i was with. I don't speak the language, they locked me in this f****** room and ic an't leave. It's really scary, i don't know why i have it again. And i'm not with anybody i know. And i'm in f****** Rwanda, Africa. And i don't know how long i'm gonna be here and they won't tell me anything"

She said she smoked MARIJUANA everyday and was going cold turkey in there and claims the food there was making her sick.

She was released 4 days later after tests came back negative and the first was a false positive

She shared an apology video and said she never meant to offend anybody but she was alone and scared and didn't know what to do and took it down after watching it back.

Charly also apologized for going during a pandemic but said she wanted to save the Gorillas..and this despite saying on the day after arriving she LOVED the people, the food and everything in the country

If she originally had a true positive result three months ago and is currently asymptomatic, according to our best knowledge, she should not be a COVID-19 threat to anyone. She may have made statements in very poor taste but you cannot claim that her travel was irresponsible due to her previous COVID result.

As much as I hate "influencers", think this is the wrong time for travel, and find the idea that they could "save" anything patently ridiculous, the reaction is just stupid.

...and this is just wrong on so many levels.

1) The US isn't the "most infected country," on a per-capita basis it only ranks tenth and even then it's *barely* ahead of Brazil. The overall number of cases are higher because it's a larger country (it's the third-largest country by population) and it accurately reports cases. On a per capita basis, the most infected is Qatar by a *large* stretch (and it's almost certainly a result of preparations for hosting the world cup)

2) Rwanda has massive conservation issues, which have been exacerbated the COVID crisis

3) On a more general note, this is a country that had a fucking genocide not long ago so suggesting that everything there is ship-shape is offensively ignorant.

Does Rwanda have the most efficient testing regime in the world and it's possible to have 100,000 tests there in only five days, or is that chronology hopelessly confused?
