Cancelling the main show and starting a Darryl/Carol spin-off and "Tales of the Walking Dead" which is an anthology show.

I gave up on TWD a long time ago but an anthology show sounds interesting.

This smells like an attempt to rebrand with a spinoff as the amount of seasons is so large that it is the biggest barrier to bringing in new viewers.

Yeah I didn't even bother with season 10 but I will finish the show eventually. I do like the sound of anthology series as well, a Daryl/Carol spin-off, eh not so much.

Don't they also have like 3 movies planned with Rick or something? Or did those get canned?

As far as I know they're still in the works, though maybe only down to one theatrical release now?

Been defending the show longer than most
Season 7 was the worst which was a good reason for people to leave. 8 was a bit better but sadly people kept on leaving the show and nobody came back
The ending of 8 was actually near perfect way to end the series but uhh they wanted to use the Whisperers anyway so now we have 3 more seasons
They are fine seasons, but the show already overstayed it's welcome

They also have a problem that I assume other long running shows has - real life happens
Actors want to quit. Even if it doesn't fit with the story

We have seen it happen with-
Carl who was supposed to be the main character instead of Rick actually dying before Rick left
Maggie leaving for two? seasons because of her failed TV show
Michonne leaving in search of Rick because..she doesn't want to play the character anymore? not sure
And of course Rick leaving for the movies

Actually, isn't Season 11 coming to where they're at with the end of the comics? Aren't they getting close with the material they're still using to the end?

Yeah pretty much. Only one major arc after the Whisperers in the comics.

The concept of the comics was about the slow death of the world. That's why they dragged this out for 11 seasons, to conceptually match the theme of a slow death, by gradually killing viewership and content quality.

I thought they actually got a lot better after the time jump, but by that point people were all Show Bad and not even watching

I've watched it all since day one, and yeah, ratings dropped with Negan and the All Out War. If there was a moment I considered quitting The Walking Dead it was when Carl died, but at that point I had to see how it all ends.

Last two seasons have been better imo
