Final Fantasy characters were barely in it in the first place.

Those were elemental apparitions of those characters, not the characters themselves.

Disney stated they weren't letting them do stuff like have Simba leave his own setting anymore, for whatever reason. So we're stuck with "Simba but on fire".

Part of why they're called Links now and not Summons.

Throwing some elemental filter on em doesnt stop em from not being those exact characters. Ralph even looks exactly the same.
