First game I played was Blue, and I've played them all except for Gen 4. RNG is not my friend.

I've found several.

Roselia in Diamond
Rufflet (hatched) in Black
Wingull in Y

I think there was one or two others, too. All of these were unintentional.

Ultra Moon kinda has me addicted to shiny hunting. In the past few weeks I've got about 10. Just got a shiny Fomantis yesterday and a shiny Alolan Persian today.

I have heard the Ultra games were good for that, although now that I think about it, it was probably your topic. I also did not get to play those.

Might have to fire that back up again. I kind of just went through the game as quickly as possible. It was fun, just didn't quite scratch the itch of a mainline game.

Honestly if you want to shiny hunt, the very first thing you do is pick the game you want to hunt in, then, you complete the pokedex in that game so you can get the Shiny Charm which doubles shiny odds. USUM is a good game to do this in because you only need 400 pokemon to complete the dex, and also there are various methods that make shiny hunting fast and easy.

First method: Swap breeding with Masuda method: Masuda breeding can be tedious, but in theory it's a very fast way to get shinies with a 1/512 chance with the Shiny Charm. And the way egg mechanics work in gen 7 are unique. The shiny egg is actually determined before you ever put pokemon in the daycare. So what you do is get a foreign ditto (preferably 6 IV if you're breeding competitive Pokemon. And honestly if you're going for shinies, go for competitive shinies to flex), and the pokemon you want to breed, and a magikarp. First put the ditto in. Take it out. Give it a destiny knot and put it back in and leave it in there. This does 2 things. First giving it the item resets the shiny RNG. Second destiny knot on the ditto passes down the ditto's IVs. Now. Save. Put the magikarp in, and just keep breeding and hatching sets of 30 eggs. After 30 eggs take the magikarp out. if there are no shinies save and put it back in. keep doing this until you hatch a shiny magikarp. Note which egg it's in, without saving do a soft reset. Put the pokemon you want to breed for shiny in and hatch that same egg. Congratulations on your shiny!

Second method: SOS battling. Find a Pokemon you want shiny and can be found in the wild, find out where it lives. Get a Pokemon with false swipe and a stack of Adrenaline Orbs. Encounter the Pokemon you want shiny or the Pokemon that calls the Pokemon you want shiny. False Swipe to 1 HP and use the Orb. KO Pokemon that spawn until you encounter the shiny. Also make sure to occasionally False Swipe the called Pokemon of the same species and KO the caller to continue the chain because otherwise the caller will KO itself eventually when it runs out of PP. At a 70 chain(this really doesn't take long. like 30 minutes) shiny chance is almost as good as Masuda at 1/683. Also the longer the chain, the more guaranteed perfect IVs you get, up to 4. On turns where the Pokemon doesn't call for help just use the Orb again. It doesn't cost anything and it safely uses your turn. Found a shiny yesterday and another one today doing this method.

Third method: Ultra Wormholes. This method can be time consuming, and requires you to get very far into the story/beat the game. Go to the Alter of the Sunne and enter the wormhole and ride your box legendary. Fly as far as you can, getting the orange orbs and avoiding the blue ones. The further you fly, and the bigger the wormhole you enter, the better the shiny chance. If you make it 4,500 light years and enter a tier 2 wormhole, you have like a 1/3 chance of shiny. Yes, really. you're going to encounter tons of shinies doing this method. I found 4 in one day a couple weeks ago. The catch is there's only like 25 species available doing this method.

You're not missing much. The shiny effect is cool for about 10 minutes, then you realize that caterpie is still a caterpie and into the box it goes.

And with that...pow! I'm gone!

I have played all of them since yellow, and I found 3 I think, 1st was a shiny wingull in Ruby, then a shiny diglett in FireRed (only one I didn't catch, and I was on my way to pick up more pokeballs so it stung even more) and a shiny eevee in X which is now a shiny Umbreon

I assume you're excluding eggs/hatching. It was super easy to get Shiny eggs in GSC. I got so many baby shinies. In terms of encounters I got a few in Sapphire and Emerald. I think I got couple in Diamond. Stopped playing the series after gen 5 but afaik they made getting shinies easier again.

As far as completely random ones go, I think I've gotten around 15. Got 2 totally random ones in Sword not too long ago(Togepi and that sword pokemon).

As far as things like pokeradar or chaining go, I've gotten tons that way. Had over 300 back in platinum. Didn't go all out hunting them since then, but still gotten a lot.

Work in progress, please be patient.
