from word of mouth, it seems to attempting to be something gritty and contemplative about sexualitys role in the development of younger girls, but seems that the execution of it is tasteless and weird. I cant really parse between the legitimate reviews and the grifters at this point, but regardless, its not something on my to-watch list, lol.

I watched a commentary video about it, and the scenes that he showed were really wrong. The actual actresses ranged between 11-13.

this movie isnt a social commentary about girls being free, its children doing stripper moves in front of a camera.

I think this situation is pretty interesting. I just finished watching the show The Deuce this week and this Cuties controversy reminds me of a storyline from season 3 of The Deuce. Basically there was a group of people who were protesting porn and trying to force the government to change laws and ban all porn. One of the characters made a great point by saying that the people in that movement were being used by others like Reagan and this was just a way to slowly get rid of free speech. Im doing a bad job of paraphrasing but it was more convincing on the show lol. Anyways, this Cuties movies looks repulsive and Ill never watch it but I dont like this idea of people trying censor what kinds of movies can and cant be made

that was the point. to open a discussion that people weren't having before the movie came out. people who weren't talking about this topic are very outspoken about it now, because of this movie.

Cuties is not what made me notice the hypersexualization of pre-adolescent girls.

I have been avoiding it and avoiding talking about it. I have seen it get turned into a right wing thing vs life wing thing and more. People said it was just fake outrage due to the poster . However on a clip from come on my timeline and it made me sick. Some people said that is what was suppose to happen, to expose the pressure put on girls. However you can do that without what they did. People compare this to Jody Foster in the Taxi Driver . But she said she cried while doing that.

Seeing so much backlash aimed at the dramatization of a societal issue, and not of the very real industry it critiques is a cause for concern. The fact that were starting to demonize anything connecting children with sexuality leads me to believe sex education in schools is likely the next target in this censorship crusade.

Kids need to have some exposure to the fact that there are people out there who would exploit them given the chance; if we arent allowed to have a discussion about sex, were depriving our youth of a healthy understanding of the topic once theyre actually old enough to have sex themselves.

Honest question not trying to sarcastic or sound like a jerk. But how did you draw your conclusions? This isn't about saying young people should not be warned about the dangers of exploration. This is about people saying you don't get that message about by using exploration.

do yourself a favor (or not) and watch some scenes of the girls performing and the other questionable content. Im serious. It may (or may not) change your stance.

because it isnt about girls just exploring themselves. It seems to be a failed attempt at bringing attention to an actual problem of young girls seeing sexual objectification as a way to make it in life.

At very minimum, it's a horrible marketing nightmare. The current scene making the rounds out there, while displaying some characters reacting with disgust, is not really filmed in a way that suits the message. I think you could easily portray an overly-sexualized dance routine without some of the camera choices they made.

I don't know what they is, if it deals with the same subject matter as this one just used with boys in place. Then answer would be be cause people don't give a damn about boys or men. Just wondering but did they HAVE to use young children 11-13yos for its premise? They probabaly could have told a similar story through young adult woman 18-21yos in the porn industry if it was about exploitation and stuff.
