A liberal who considers viewpoints other than their own and offers it up even though it doesn't fit with your narrative. Right or wrong we shouldn't be shaming people who try and considered all sides. Instead I'm called a troll and a nazi and berated by other posters. Is this how to win people over to your side? And yes I will be offended. I was given the nazi salute daily in high school for being Jewish and told I belong in an ash tray so yes being called one for nothing more than trying to make sense of an online video is pretty ridiculous and a complete reduction of what nazism actually is.

And once again, whoever wrote that lacks any kind of proper understanding of history or is intentionally being misleading in order to discredit the existence of police forces.

The first official police department (Day Police) was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1830s to supplement the night watch patrols who reported to the town constable which were founded several decades before the slave patrols (Boston first established the night watch in the 1630s).

Another common form of law enforcement that also helped give rise to the modern day police in the states is the sheriff with their deputies (which first originated in England centuries before America began to be settled by Europeans) which existed in towns that did not follow the constable and night watch model of law enforcement.

Neither of the above law enforcement models existed to oppress minorities but to maintain the general peace. Therefore to claim that police originated from slave patrols is a very reductionist take on history, most likely by the "Fuck the Police" and "All Cops Are Bastards" types.

There is no "probably". Slave patrols had no need to perform general law enforcement as the other forces as detailed above (sheriffs, constables, and night watches) were primarily responsible for general law enforcement in a given town even in the South. I said it was reductionist to point out only slave patrols as the prototypical police force.

Or are you raising trivial points simply for the sake of arguing?
