Had a trap in several areas, but it just didnt go for them. Moved it to the area i kept hearing him and got it. Not even 5 minutes of moving the trap I hear it go off, and something kicking/struggling. The trap had sprung, and fell in-behind a wall, so cant fish him out easily. I did snap a picture to confirm he was dead though (as it fell somewhere out of eye sight. so just used flash to see if i can get the trap) All you can see is his nose, but I dont want to post as it is of a dead animal.

just caught my 24th mouse today too. I think the trap wasn't going off and he was just eating the bait at first. when I got home he took off and I was like "oh great", but before I could even start thinking about how to approach catching him he activated the one snap strap I had set on the other side of the house. so in like 4 seconds he ran across the house and set off the one trap (he must have considered it his home base or something after snacking on it? either that or there might be two of them... sure hope not.)

it got him in the ribs instead of the head so he died slowly and painfully compared to normal. surprisingly little mess though.

This is the second one since the start of September, hopefully these are the only two for the season, though i think i heard a third one about an hour ago. But it was a brief scratch sound, and not as much as the last two

I get them often enough, but not for long. My dogs would catch them at one point. And now my cat does it for me. She's super good at it. The problem is she only catch them at a certain size, AFAIK. But whenever any of my pets kill them, I put them out front of the house. The other cats will come by and eat them. And then, they will sometimes circle the house looking for them. Which could keep them out...

Yeah, and you can have the cleanest house, but once they are in, they like to stay cause its warm (or at least this time of year) and dont want to go back into the cold.

Congrats! I thought I had one before and it actually turned out to be a rat. IT WAS HUGE. When I realized it was a rat, I upgrade the traps. Caught it after three or so weeks. I coated the cheese ritz snack with peanut butter and it seemed to do the trick.

BUT IT DID NOT DIE IMMEDIATELY. It flopped around for a good while. I had to put a box over it with pots, so it would stop flopping around. It moved a good 6 feet from where the trap originated and it flopped around in the middle of the kitchen. It was dead in the morning, but what a relief to finally get the bastard.

Also, I read too much about how rodents can get into a house during that time. Now whenever I see a building too close to a tree, I think about it.

I had a mouse in my apartment last Christmas. I was going away for the holiday so I left out a bunch of traps with peanut butter, and when I came back after New Years, I found that he'd been caught. Thankfully he hadn't gone rotten or maggoty yet.

I wouldnt say this one died immediately, but it was dead in under a minute of getting the trap on it. I was changing in my bedroom, and heard the snap of the trap, and a bang bang bang for about 30 seconds before it was dead. And it got slower and slower.

Have you tried a trap? The one that i got in my bedroom was dead in 5 minutes (3ish hours after i discovered he was in the house) after me putting a trap down for him. I found him cause they are do make alot of noise. Where ever that myth came from "as quiet as a mouse" is bs
Though I dont think he left the room at all, and i have nothing in the way of food in my bedroom. So was probably starting and the peanut butter for the trap was to tempting.
This second one i got this evening was dead within maybe 10 minutes of moving the trap, i had it by the water heater, but never went for it. I moved it onto part of the frame that is under the stairs. In a crawlspace that i have heard it the last 3 or 4 nights. Got it a lot quicker

The one i got in my bedroom, i didnt even need to follow the turds, i even watched him walk around on my shelving in my closet for about 5 minutes. It ran into a corner that is a deadend, maybe where it decided to nest? I kept going there. Run out explore a bit and go back. It even went down an amp cord that was hanging to go on a dresser i have in there, didnt find a way off (though if it looks a bit more would have been easy) and hid in that corner again. I grabbed a set trap from last year, and put it between him and the cord down. Was dead like a minute later. As bad as this sounds, i saw that one die. And it struggling to get out of the trap.

the cold? it's 90's to 100's here most days. only days it's lower is because there is so much smoke it made things cooler

I know where I am, it cooled down because of some the recent storms. It wasnt freezing, but people were wearing their fleece. So, it could have cooled down there for a few days, as well...

We have several cats. They dont want to come in the house because of the dogs. Maybe Ill try the peanut butter on the trap idea. They always seem to take cheese off without springing the trap.

Don't put too much. They don't eat a lot. If you put a lot, they will use it for several meals.

The traps I used had a recessed cup thing, so it'd have to really get in there if it wanted the food.

Good way to go, peanut butter is a good bait for mice. Plus they cant just remove it from the trap like a bit of cheese.

ok turns out there were at least 2, have now caught mouse #25.

sucks because I only had 2 earlier this year, and had sealed an opening on the side of the outside wall so I was hoping that would be the end of them. oh well. that brings 2020 up to 4, which is still a lot less than 2019's total of 8.

I really hope I never get a mouse. I do not want to deal with the aftermath of my cat getting one considering how she treats her toys.

She caught a snake once though.

Yeah, I always sleep worse when I know there is a mouse in the house. It does suck, and is kind of stressful.
Since this last death, I havent heard the scratching sound in the walls. Which is good.

not to make the stress worse, but you know about hantavirus right? north american version has like 30-50% fatality with 2-6 week incubution, which is so lousy. but to get it you need to inhale it, so make sure to clean with wet paper towels or something similar, and do not vacuum up any droppings. I also wear a mask and latex gloves while dealing with it.

Havent seen any droppings, I dont think they really have left the area of my house that I have been killing them. I havent heard them anywhere but there.

When the fields outside my house were bulldozed, all the field mice ran into the houses nearby. My cats caught and brought us the mice without hurting them (one of them was covered in slobber, lol), so we drove out of town and let them go.

I would use poison, but I accidentally got strong poison. And I don't want my cat or dogs to accidentally get some, or for the other neighborhood pets to die of it, either. Because it will probably kill everything...

My dogs destroy their toys, but not the mice. I think my older dog just doesn't for whatever reason. My younger dog sometimes licks them trying to get them to play more. But he kills them pretty well. Except for one that got back up, and promptly died when the little one grab him again. I never see my cat kill, but I find them in her area...

Not yet. Unfortunately I havent put the traps out because Im incurably lazy. Today is the day I set them though! (I heard the little idiots last night. They dont know whats coming!)
