I have gotten my first clear of the Castrum raid inside of Bozja. It's nice, because it feels like an actual raid rather than a glorified trial. Now I have some work to do to grind out Mettle/Ranks, Clusters for rewards, maybe more Castrum clears for achievements, and then eventually go back to doing FATEs and lv60 dungeons for the remainder of Memories I'll have left to grind after that point.

  • BTW, you can just keep earning the Bitter Memories as long as the proper quest is active, and dropping or completing the quest doesn't eliminate the ones you have. So I have the two relic quests open for alt jobs until I have all of the Memories I need for this phase.

In the morrow, though, I do have one more run to do of the NieR raids so I can finish upgrading my tanks' Crystarium gear. This should be fun, seeing how many more people have stronger weapons, and whether or not these raids move any faster. I want to see Engel, Copied's third boss, fall to 47% or less before adds; I've only seen as low as 51% so far. With my own weapon on Whm being as it is, this run is going to benefit from my being there for sure... as long as I'm not spending too much time on actually healing or rezzing people who do the dumb.

one more mob away from our latest ls aeonic clears. chango for me this time, so that should be mine next monday eve.

I really don't see myself going through this again. horn would be my next choice, but I have no room in any wardrobe to even begin to gear brd, and getting through these clears with more than 18 people and needing multiple kills on each reisenjima helm is making me crazy

I'm getting close to Rank 15 in Bozja, and have been picking up Castrum clears for achievement purposes despite not being an active achievement hunter anymore. I've acquired both mounts and one of the two minions unique to Bozja Southern Front, so we'll see how things look by the time I'm done with this instanced area and can move on back to FATEs and level 60 dungeons. Of course, there may not be many runs left of those dungeons by the time I'm done with Bozja, thanks to having the relic quests open. lol

Chango: O after schah kills last night

Now to test it out in a proper buffed setting. First impressions with low buffs from trusts leaving me... underwhelmed. Upheaval just doesn't seem to be as consistent of a ws as savage. Oh well, at least I get to full break nms and be useful for that too.

I finally have all five Ark Angel trusts in XI. That was a thing to have happened. This puts me at 74 trusts, not counting UC lead, so I need 12 more of them.

As for XIV, I still have my remaining thirteen relics to upgrade, some more Bozja things to do, and uhh... Whatever else sounds good after that I guess. Like I should consider picking up some sublime solutions and aethersand before the next content patch so I can more or less hit the ground running on the i510 gear for my main jobs. That way I can keep running relevant content. xD

The WotG story angers me. It's already kind of obnoxious to break away from a decent main story every few missions, disrupting the flow of the narrative, to do a nation's story. Once one of those are done, though, you go to a few places for a couple cutscenes and are told to do a thing... which then requires you to take on a handful of sidequests with at least one of those having its own sub-sidequests. I just got done with the Windurstian distraction, as nice as it was at points--Perih is best kitty in XI, still, btw--and before that I had completed the CoP story with all its forks and subquests within larger missions. Why did SE think this was a good idea, exactly?

Meanwhile, in XIV, I am aiming to do some more Castrum clears so I can upgrade the headpiece on my tanks. The idea is to use the resulting 2% haste while in Bozja to tackle the 1-v-1 battles on either Pld or War. I'll be sure to have some nice, helpful Lost Actions ready to rock those fights as well. While I may not be the biggest achievement hunter anymore, I still want to hit those three fights in case they are brought up at all in future content, because those finer touches in the game's dialogue are always nice.

I liked wotg when I did it, but it's been mannny years so I'm sure it feels different. I just have a soft spot for a love story. and I like that even the wotg questlines for each nation give a reward in the form of a different trust for each so you don't feel like you are doing it for nothing (zodiac ring is still a useful item at least from wotg questlines)

I'm currently working on building towards a non-hybrid war tp set. I have a hybrid set I use currently for capped -dt (see: https://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/373466 ) to survive, but I figure I should make an "I don't care if I die just like me get tp faster" set with the new tatenashi augments that came out recently.

I just did 237k damage with Afflatus Misery in XIV, by using a combination of tools in Bozja. It felt so good... until more than half my party decided to stand in something fatal despite me having a marker over my head for that very reason.

276k damage this time. Mind you, I didn't use a mind potion, and there's another Font I could have used as well, at the cost of healing potency. Then again, I was in a party that started the raid with six healers, ended with five (because one went to the Lyon group), though two kept dying to things. So Green DPS for the win. \o/

By the way, I'm slowly but surely leveling Blm in XI. I plan to use it to beat Maat my sixth time, for his Alter Ego, after I've finished the WotG story. Hopefully November will bring some Trusts for me to acquire that I'm missing so I can get to 86+ and get one of my bucket list goals done and out of the way.

I finally completed the WotG story. Twilight had a better love story, tbh. <_<

That said, my Blm in XI is 81 at the moment, and I still have those things to do in XIV before the next content patch. While I can level at a decent pace in XI, at least when I can do back-to-back Echad Ring bonuses, I am growing bored of leveling in general, and might do Smn just to be sure I can pick up some avatars and try that class out finally. With Bastok, Windurst, Adoulin's latter half, and the last sixth or so of Rhapsodies left to finish, I may just call it on XI and find something else to accompany my time with XIV; something I find to be fun. I've more or less reached my closure with XI, and just need to finish those stories.

I know I've said before that I'll start soon, but I feel "soon" is actually on the horizon now. Once I beat Final Fantasy VII Remake and a couple other games, I'll have worked through most the major titles this gen (or I guess last gen now) I'm interested in and have plenty of time to invest in an MMO. I'll probably be posting more in this thread in a few weeks, once I start!

Ffxi remains more of the same. Omen, dyna, ambus, aeonics, farm tumult curator, repeat

I'd say we need new blood in our ls, because none of ours even need anything from content easier than that stuff anymore, but damn we already got too many people thanks to my dumbass. I think the last aeonic set we had to clear each reisen helm like 5 or 6 times we had so many damn people.

89 Blm in XI. I'll be hopping onto XIV soon to resume some Bozja/relic stuff and saving up some obvious crafting materials for the i510 set coming out soon.

I have a few coworkers who play XIV as well, but they're on Crystal rather than Aether. I've told them I'd help them with crafting or certain other content-related needs if we were on the same data center. Ah well. One girl told me today she's about to enter the Tempest, saying she better get her boy back, or she'll be raising hell. lol

Blm in XI is 97 now. The LS I've been in the last couple months has more or less imploded due to drama regarding what direction they wanted the LS to go in. A couple of the remaining members agree I should get on with finishing the Waifus of Vana'diel story once Blm is leveled. So I will be doing that soon while I largely work on preparing for 5.4 in XIV.

Waifus of Vana'diel is done and over now. I am also of the opinion that Reisinjima was built entirely to be as obnoxious as a hallway simulator can possibly be.

The bucket list I have remaining for XI includes:
  • Finishing Adoulin story (2/5 done)
  • Modern Bastok story
  • Modern Windurst story
  • Beat Maat a sixth time to get his Trust (Blm is 99 and sixth to get there so...)
  • Maybe get to 86+ Trusts excluding UC lead for the +1 level thing (Maat will make 78)
  • MAYBE level Smn and acquire some avatars so I can experience that finally.

And that is it. The weapon and capacity grinds and some weapon skills' quests don't interest me. I've neither need nor desire to climb the ranks in Aht Urghan. Climbing ranks with the Cobras in WotG is nice, but basically useless since apparently Levi server has only taken the Throne Room a couple times when that content was new, and the one item I'd like to spend Allied Notes on is locked behind that. Leveling the jobs is easy but boring, basically being the waiting game one way or another.

My Phanta in XIV is almost capped off again. So I'm doing OK on time with the 5.4 prep.

In XI, the daily Gobbie key (for this month) gave me an item I don't need, but sells fairly well for 1.5mil gil on Leviathan. I don't really need the money either, but I put it on the Auction House regardless. I am thinking of asking what's left of my LS, when I get ready to leave the game, who would like my stuff including the money (around 10mil) and HP Bayld and whatnot.

It has been a few days since I last logged in, and life feels all the more precious and available as a result. I do still intend to finish those last few things I'd listed, but maybe the grind isn't worth the time you put into the game? You have fonder memories of it than I do, for sure, but that shouldn't mean dwelling in it when there's so much ahead of you. To me, grinding for grinding's sake has never been good design. It's why I used to gameshark older RPGs to cut down on the time spent.

Like with the original Dragon Warrior. Go into a brand new file without the need to grind anything, and the entire thing will take one hour - tops.

I still play XIV, even during most content lulls, because it continues to be fun to me. XI has never been fun to me, despite seeing potential for it in places. I like games that haven't been designed to actively provide a bad time nor do what XI does with its many mobs that take too much time to kill when you play it safe (and will probably kill you if you don't); which is to say nothing of taking too long to solo-kill a plain mob 20+ levels lower than me. I like stories that are written in a coherent manner and don't self-contradict heavily (which is largely why I hate CoP and RoV stories). I like not having to run what seems like half a dozen errands every time a major fight comes up, something even XIV made us do twice (Titan normal mode and Ridorana Lighthouse) as opposed to the times XI has us do it. I like being able to jump and move freely rather than circle a needlessly large zone on foot to get to one spot, and then again, and then again, and then again....

And thankfully my grind is over for good till more inv space comes out. No point in me making another mythic or something if I don't have inv space to gear a job.

Oh hey, Trusts for the log-in campaign in XI this month... and I have them all that are listed. So I have nothing to spend those campaign points on until I finally use one of the rings in my inventory. Considering I'm so close to quitting at any rate... Meh.

As for XIV, I am in the midst of picking up materials still for six sets of i510 armor. As nice as some of the Emerald Weapon's weapons are, I can wait for the next relic upgrade. On the other hand, I do need to learn the extreme mode fight so I can farm for the mount, though I've yet to learn the extremes of SoS or Ruby (and still need Hades' mount too).

Soon, though, is the Starlight event in XIV, so I'll at least be getting that mount for sure. It's be nice to get a bunch of extreme/savage mounts I'm missing too, if just to feel more content with my mount collection's sheer size.

I still need to get into E9s so I can get BiS accessories for my main jobs, but I need to get over the i500 hurdle first, which means finally making that gear. That's on my to do list soon since I'm finally nearly done getting the tomestone mats for six sets of armor.

Of course, I'll probably be able to pick up a tomestone 520 armor for one of my main jobs this coming week, so that means selling the leftover piece of 500 crafted gear once it's all made. lol

In other news, this morning had started the annual Starlight event. The story was OK, but the rewards were obnoxiously dumb until the seemingly out-of-nowhere Snowman mount is just handed to us at the end of the sixth quest. So yay, I guess. My main character now has 131 mounts, which is clearly not enough.

I need to catch up on Ex trials (including Memoria for achievement and TT card) and get the four gwibers I'm missing. I also want to go back to O8s and get that mount, as well as possibly the E4s mount just to have more variety in my multi-seaters. On that note, I would love to get Astrope someday, but I would have to run Mentor Roulette six times (or slightly less) a day on average to get it by next Christmas.

I just don't see that 2k Mentor Roulette thing happening for me. Not any time soon. Too many people queuing for ARR extreme trials and expecting to be carried or to learn fresh/blind, too many trips into Praetorium, or even one of ARR's mind-numbing leveling dungeons, and too many times of the Adventurer in Need bonus being Tank (and never healer).

For some reason, I keep having solo moments on War (or any tank really) when running endgame dungeons. Healer and DPS dead to dumb things, me fighting the thing with a choice of giving up to start over or carrying on for the principle of the thing even though it takes longer to solo the fight on a tank than with a whole party.

I once again had such a moment tonight, in a level 80 dungeon in which the healer was a little underwhelming, where the party was basically dead by the second blue fire mechanic that the last boss of Grand Cosmos uses. I estimate taking about seven or eight minutes from that point soloing the fight on Warrior. Mind you, I was tired after a long, slow day at work, so I wasn't even on my A game.

So for somebody who hasn't played any since soon after Heavensward came out, are dungeons still a popular thing people do? I know they have that....whatever its called system (Halls of The Dead?) that people were really into when I left. It seems to have taken over dungeons as the fastest/easiest way to level. I came back at one point in a free trial and tried it. It seemed pretty boring to me but fairly easy and you don't have to have a set party comp to do it either.
I've heard they went more into that and its like the ideal way to level up now so was curious if dungeons are just kinda non-existant these days except specific ones.

Dungeons were my absolute favorite part, even doing them several times on to level up different jobs wasn't that annoying to me honestly.

People still run them, but not as much as other things. Hunts tend to be the number one source of tomes for people, so they might do that, and maybe one or two other things worth a few weekly tomes, during the week and never touch the dungeons after getting what they need clear or loot-wise. So yeah, there are still a fair number of people who run those dungeons, aside from that.

Palace of the Dead, yeah. That's still great until 60, Heaven on High from 61 to 70, and Bozja Southern Front is supposed to be good for leveling alt jobs from 71 to 80. I still see the occasional group running leveling dungeons, however. I just shudder, and feel the strong urge to leave and take my 30 minute penalty, if I get a group running Aurum Vale, because go do PotD for that level range. Please? For the love of sanity?

Really, though, those leveling dungeons are totally still a thing. And, sadly, too many tanks don't pull the entire first room of DD these days. I surprised a party of mine the other day when I did it, with one DPS saying they love me for it. lol

I'm an oddball who loves doing FATEs, albeit in heightened moderation. I'll do those while waiting for a DPS queue for a dungeon, once I've exhausted my Alliance Raids and Main Scenario roulettes for the day. However, I'm capped on all jobs for my main character right now, and my leading alt has her main job at 80 (despite being at the start of StB content), so I usually only run roulettes because I like using them to cap my weekly tomes (as well as provide GC Seals for coke for the FC lead or Poetics for extra topsoil).

This sounds familiar. Ah yes, thanks google. I remember that one. I actually did NOT hate it as much as other people did. I tanked there a lot (and dps some on monk/mch) and it was a little annoying but not too horrible in my, idk 50 runs I've done of it over the years. The first room is what most hate about it and i never found it too bad. That and the malboro boss when people aren't looking. Can be quite bad when you got a bad tank or people who refuse to listen but it wasn't too bad overall. I know why people hate it, but I never had such a horrible time.

I got confused for a sec, thought you meant poll of the day...haha.

So basically you're saying that people still do dungeons but not as much and definitely not the main thing to level up. Shame. I enjoyed them a lot even if they were almost always the same, the diff groups made it interesting. POTD always bored me the times I did it.

Dungeon names I assume.

Really, though, those leveling dungeons are totally still a thing. And, sadly, too many tanks don't pull the entire first room of DD these days. I surprised a party of mine the other day when I did it, with one DPS saying they love me for it. lol
Why are leveling dungeons a thing when palace of the dead seems so much easier to do? Maybe i'm misremembering but you didn't even need a set kind of party...nor gear to do it at decent speed.

What's DD? Ah...Dzemael Darkhold. I recall that, always a little annoying. Probably the one I found most annoying that I remember off-hand.

Anyways, thanks for the long answer. Sometimes I miss FF14 so I was curious.
