As a collector, I can see these physical ones keeping value over time. If you alread have the OGs or one of the billions of Mario 64 ports I can understand skipping this one. I am a vidya hoarder so I want to make sure and get this one.

I bought digital. My reasoning is if my cartridge gets damaged I'm SOL after the 6 month period. Whereas I can just redownload the game if anything happens to my Switch (I still own a license to play the game after the 6 months are up)

It doesn't matter if the stock is limited or not. Nintendo games like these hold extraordinary value long term. If you're a physical collector, this is your cheapest chance to get it. If you're a scalper, this is your chance to make the most money off it. If you're neither, then this doesn't affect you. Just get the digital version.

These are games you have (likely) already played and possibly beaten before. Man, Nintendo knows how to take advantage of their dead time with no new games with these ports...my goodness.

Best Buy still has physical preorders up. In-store pickup only tho so may be limited if you're in a rural area.

selling on ebay for $80 already. and people are buying them which i don't understand. i'm sure it's gonna be in stock the first week. even if it's not i'm sure it's mass produced and even after the 6 months stores will probably just not get anymore stock and sell out what they have. like february might be their last chance to order more stock and when it's gone it's gone. march 31st is the last day for digital but unless nintendo is buying back their leftover physical copies then it's not like a store is just gonna throw it away.

Sunshine's current value on the resale market comes entirely from the fact that Nintendo has never re-released it on any console or eshop until now, and there isn't even a ton of copies (relatively) because the GC never sold that well.

Looking at this from a Canadian perspective the game is essentially $90-$92 after tax across almost the entire country. Best Buy still has thousands of copies left to preorder just from their initial stock allocation and EB Games and Amazon still have it available as well.

The game also won't gain any theoretical value until after it is "discontinued" and that is well past any return date for retailers, so you're just risking getting yourself stuck with the stock.

There just simply isn't a huge value proposition here.
