Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

presumably Jack will start in a city because he dies if he's outside of one for too long apparently... is him being compelled to go find Deathstroke going to screw him over here

Uh, probably not. I think Deathstroke would probably start in a city or suburb anyway, and Jack is going to have a much more compelling reason to stay in place than Deathstroke would have (even though in the more modern comics he only loses his powers if he leaves the city, he's still really gonna want to stay put), so even if Deathstroke has more willpower, he wouldn't fight as hard... at least until he enters it and realizes it's really not his territory.

It comes down to whether Deathstroke would survive the first attack and whether he can defeat Jack from outside the city

I think Jack has a strong case here then, he can sense everything that happens in the city and his powers are large scale enough that Deathstroke is probably going to get buried if he goes in there. I think he's too clever to just count out right away but he has no way of knowing what he's up against without actually entering the city so that's rough.

Note that Jack's health is tied to that of the city. Deathstroke has a viable path to victory if he can start burning it down. At the least, I imagine he'll be able to force a confrontation at the outskirts where Jack would be weaker

Hawksmoor. Deathstroke's only real chance here is to realize the city itself is fighting him and to get somewhere outside of it, but I think Hawksmoor would just trap him forever in a building before that happened

https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/John_Cooper_Hawksmoor_(Wildstorm_Universe)

Jack can communicate with cities (buildings, streets, etc.) and ask (or force) them to do what he commands, animate parts of the city, or renovate entire cities in moments. Jack has been shown commanding cities to literally swallow people whole, sometimes Jack has caused parts of the city to erupt, damaging enemies. Jacks manipulation of cities apparently work on a master to subordinate level. He commands the artificial constructs as if they were living beings and they follow his commands without restraint. His powers aren't restricted to large parts of things like the ground or buildings either, he can control individual objects in the city just as easily.

Due to extra-human organs behind his spleen Jack can feel in a matter of seconds when something unnatural is happening within or near a urban setting. He can instantly know what is happening in a part of a city.

Here's a respect thread I found:
https://www.reddit.com/r/respectthreads/comments/91077z/respect_jack_hawksmoor_wildstorm/

Some tl;dr:
- Strong (threw an oil tanker at an enemy, routinely rips off dudes' heads) and acrobatic (runs down skyscrapers with ease)
- Can manipulate urban surroundings, e.g., making pavement dissolve and swallow enemies like quicksand, or forming it into giant fists to grab/punch enemies
- Has a passive sense of his surroundings (e.g., can sense when someone enters a building he's in) and can also obtain information from his surroundings (e.g., asking a window or TV set what it's seen; estimating a victim's time of death from the heat emitted onto the floor)

Hawksmoor

I just don't see how Deathstroke beats a city.

I like to think Hawksmoor is going to watch all the previous tourney matches (well, all the ones that happened in the city)

But yeah this situation seems super advantageous for him because there's only the two of them in the city, so it's trivial for the city to pinpoint and relay Deathstroke's location, and then Hawksmoor completely controls the terms of engagement

he's in a weird place where barely anyone in mid tier is a match for him but if you put him in high he would get stomped by almost everyone there

also Jack Hawksmoor

yeah, there's a few mid people I'd give fairly comfortable wins to. Aang's got the power to burn shit down and the mobility to have a good chance to escape. Quirrell similarly. I think Dresden would probably destroy the whole thing by mistake, somehow.

Precise, methodical characters like Deathstroke get countered here, for once

funny enough though Deathstroke might beat Aang
