To those that don't know, I was in a shooting at a mall last month. No one was hurt, just two idiots arguing about some shit and they both pulled guns point blank on eachother...and both somehow still missed every shot. I was like 50-100ft away from where the shooting actually was. I ran like hell with everyone else and picked my friend up when he tripped so he would not be trampled. We got out of there fine. I was sore the next day tho lol.

Problem is ever since then I have like a really high alertness to anything that sounds like a gun shot. I would not say I get scared because I was not even scared when it was real, I just knew I had to go to the car and leave. But now every time I hear something when I am outside that sounds like a bang (construction, loud mufflers, motorcycles, etc.), my heart starts racing and my stomach sinks. Idk if that counts as PTSD or not. It's so annoying because I never let anything bother me and my mood, but this is the first time where something actually affected me. It's not super serious, but I hate that I have those reactions since I never used to.

Rant over, just been thinking about this since I noticed and I been trying to get over it but it's tough >.>

Nah it's not that serious, I am not scared to go outside or anything. It's just when I hear something like some asshole in a car popping his engine, my heartbeat goes way up. It goes away after like 10 seconds, but I am just not used to letting shit affect me like that so I am a little mad. I'm hoping it just goes away over time since it's kinda minor and it was not that long ago.

Sounds like you're holding onto this unrealistic perception that you're "never scared" and you refuse to accept that this was scary and got you stirred up. It's normal to be scared of stuff. Literally anyone who tells you they're never scared of anything is a liar. Addressing that is gonna be necessary to move on. You can't get over something if you don't admit the problem. No one's gonna think you're a bitch for being rattled by this. They're just gonna think you're a liar for not admitting it, even tho it's obviously getting to you.

I dunno. Maybe Im wrong. Maybe you're Superman. Wait, nvm. I think even Superman doesn't claim that nothing ever bothers him.

Sorry you've had that experience, but good for you trying to move forward. And you should be really proud of yourself, the fact that you picked your friend up and helped is something you should be really proud about. It may seem simple or obvious now in hindsight, but it's proof of your character, it was brave, selfless, and the best qualities of humanity. For real.

As others have said, you may want to talk to a therapist. You can try, see if it works for you. Therapy is also a very personal relationship, find the right one who you vibe with and and then maybe you only go for a session or a few. Or you realize its something continuing more long term. Not saying it's necessary either, but its something to consider as an option.

Thanks lol. and idk. We see. It's really not affecting my everyday life so I don't think it something to do right now. But I will definitely keep it in mind if it continues long term. Also I yelled at my friend in the car because he dropped his glasses when he fell and wanted me to turn around and so we could look for them. I told him to go fuck himself, there is a dude with a gun near where we were and you want me to go back? I stepped on the gas lol. He could buy himself a new pair if he wants. That was a funny experience at least

It doesn't have to be lifechanging to be ptsd. Consider that daily random heart spikes are going to lead to some serious heart damage, over the long term.
