So yesterday news broke that one of the future hopefuls in the Swedish far right party "The Sweden Democrats" was literally a Nazi. He immediately resigned from everything. People in the party previously described him as a future hopeful, and he was actually employed by the party, as well as being a leading name in their youth party "The Young Swedes". This is not really an isolated incident - around a week before another member from the same local division of the party was excluded for making really crude racist jokes on Facebook. There are new SD scandals pretty much every week, ranging from racist memes on Facebook to nasty Nazi stuff. Several members of the party leadership are caught on images/film in their youth making Nazi jokes, shaking hands with actual Nazis from Nazi Germany, etc.

Today: The same party proposes a kind of militia, a "fast tracked" armed police force with a shorter education, meant to "maintain order".

Totally not Nazis you guys, that's all in the past

Interesting how people who are like "I'm totally not a Nazi anymore!" are so keen on holding on to brands and organisations with a very strong Nazi legacy

So its like the Australian situation where the name Democrats refers to right wingers?

Nah, that's just to make it sound like they're the good guys. People who vote on such parties usually don't do much reading between the lines and take it all at face value.

I don't know much about Australia but in the Swedish parliament we have three parties that have "Democrats" in their name:
  • The Social Democrats
  • The Christian Democrats
  • The Sweden Democrats
Social Democrats are technically left wing but sliding to the center. Christian Democrats are conservative af and Sweden Democrats are totally not Nazis

Thanks. And I meant the Liberal party, not democrat for Australia. The Liberal Party in Australia is right wing.
We have one as well, called "The Liberals", and they're right wing. But right now they're cooperating with the left-wing (Social Democrat) government, resulting in the Soc Dems sliding further right.

In Germany:

The centre-right party is the Christian Democratic Union
The centre-left party is the Socialdemocratic Party of Germany
The classical/free market liberal party is the Free Democratic Party
The "we're not Nazis" party is the Nationaldemocratic Party of Germany

tl;dr it's just a buzzword

Jimmie kesson, the current leader of SD, joined the party when it was openly neo-nazi. I think that speaks immense volumes.

Some info for the foreigners: SD was founded in 1988 by a man who served Hitler as an SS-officer. He moved to Germany during WW2 and remained there for decades. He was never arrested for his crimes and moved back home to Sweden as an old man. He founded SD and died a few years later.

Which of these are good Nazi films?

Speaking of Democrat, outside of the U.S. democrat parties are usually right wing. They've had democrat parties in Japan and South Korea also.

The Democratic party is also right wing, it's just that they are liberal (ostensibly) while the Republicans are conservative.

Finland's Social Democratic Party is unquestionably left-wing, though.
