So Doom, Doom 2, probably Evilution and Plutonia, Heretic and expansions, Hexen and its expansion, Strife, what other doom engine games should I try?

So not actually on the hardest difficulty then though I don't blame you.

Yup and it's not remotely fun either

nightmare is bullshit cause the enemies come back to life. Ultra Violence has the same difficulty level minus the respawning enemies. I always considered nightmare to be pointless unless you are a masochist

IIRC Nightmare also has faster enemies and faster projectiles

Also, I did beat Dusk's first level on the bullshit difficulty after a few tries lol

Anything past that is way harder though. I know someone that beat the second to last level somehow...

Doom engine refers to the original engine used for Doom

Play on Ultra-Violence with the -Fast parameter. You won't get the respawning enemies or quicker intitial reaction times of enemies that exist on Nightmare, but you'll still have supersonic Pinkies and fast projectiles.

I'll just do Ultra-Violence normal. On regular Doom that'll be a bit easy, on parts of Doom 2 and most expansions for both that'll be brutal.

Heretic and Hexen on highest difficulty also scares me x.x

Doing a bit of Doom on Ultra Violence and Heretic on the highest difficulty, Heretic is so damn fun, but I know some of the later enemies will fuck me up

Also Started Hexen, using Fighter instead of cleric, but on the highest difficulty. Lategame gonna hurt a lot

Apparently playing Heretic on Black Plague was a mistake, because it has fast enemies and projectiles :(

Heretic is brutal. I'm going through each level in one shot, no quicksaves. NOT doing that for Hexen.

Also you hate it? How come? It's such a classic for me.

Nah Duke 3d was a whole new engine, the build engine, much more complex. I hate it because the humor and style don't land for me and it badly abuses some awful design, like hitscan spam and kamikaze enemies.

I loved the tongue in cheek cheesy action hero Duke plays. Then again I was a kid when I played it. I don't remember hitscan being much of a problem? Duke has like 3 hitscan weapons, the rest are projectiles.

Unless you mean the enemies use hitscan? Even then I can only think of the pig cops shotgun. I also don't remember a single kamikaze enemy... Maybe the pig cops in the flying things when they die?

Unfortunately, the most common hitscan enemies are boss mobs that get reused later, like the aliens with a minigun. And there are gray drones that home in on you and explode. And later levels spam them.

Ahhh okay. I think I know the Minigun guy you mean. Don't remember the grey drones as I never got that far. Replayed it a few times but never made it to the end.

I did! Well made game, and I intend to finish it but didn't wow me as much as Dusk and Amid Evil

I haven't checked out Dusk or Amid Evil. Ion Fury is pretty good. It is so LONG though. That shouldn't be a criticism but it does start to drag/get repetitive. The level design seems to get lazier/uglier as you go on too. Still had a blast with it and need to finish it.

You need to check out Dusk. I legit consider it the best fps ever made. Amid Evil is also amazing with some of the most gorgeous architecture I've ever seen in an fps.

No it's another one. I found it. It's called Hedon and it runs on GZDoom which is Doom engine but rendered in Source. Not sure if that counts for you or not but you should look.

That game is seriously underrated, the sprite work is insane.

Also, not Doom engine, but should I play rise of the triad? I hate Wolfenstein and never played through ROTT...
