The US military backed out of using the "heat ray" (it is a real thing - look up Active Denial System if you want more details on it but short version it uses the principles behind microwaves to heat the top layer of skin to simulate the sensation of being burned alive) against Iraqi protesters out of a belief that it would intensify protests (also IIRC it was coming off the heels of Abu Ghraib and they were afraid images of people with second-degree burns would pop-up and make things worse.)

So, naturally, I'm not surprised this administration would think of deploying it domestically.

You know the most fucked up thing about the heat ray is it appears to have never seen combat ever. We actually spent however many millions of dollars developing a weapon that even the US military very consistently went "hmm this is probably too fucked up to actually use." Incredible.

I think the election can't run when shutdown. Not sure but i don't see how it could. Same with census

Im truly baffled.

It's literally 100% absolutely impossible to win a challenge on a moderation with the new system. I don't think a single one has ever been overturned. The old system you could get them overturned quite often. Because they all vote on them now, they basically seem to have a vow to just accept them all across the board. I wouldn't doubt that almost every moderation appeal is near unanimous also.

Appeals to higher authorities no longer exist in new system. It's an appeal to all moderators in an anonymous voting system. It's beyond broken.

If you mean for the Presidential election, that's what South Carolina did every election before the Civil War. It's perfectly legal and remains so. The State legislature decides how to choose their electors, they don't have to hold a statewide poll for it.

Oh yeah I almost forgot. The whole reason I logged into this account was about the Active Denial System mentioned above.

I actually had it used on me when I was stationed at Kirtland AFB in like...09-10-ish, and its wild. It was far enough away that I couldnt even see it and the sensation was like when you open a hot oven except over your whole body.

Also an important distinction, its microwave-like, but actually uses millimeter waves, which penetrate to a fraction of the depth of microwaves. Prolonged exposure, if you couldnt avoid it somehow, could give you small blisters, but IIRC it doesnt penetrate enough to ever be lethal? Its a wild technology.
