Literally the only shines that matter are the first 7 in every level. Those secret shines? Episodes 8-10? 100 coin shines? The bloody annoying blue coin shines? Literally none of them matter for beating the game and are just a waste of time if you only want to beat Bowser >_>

That's so fucking dumb. It should've been like 64 and Galaxy where you just need a set amount from anywhere you want. Being railroaded into 50 specific shines is so dumb.

The blue coins are one of the first things that come to mind when I think of Sunshine because of how infuriating they were. I only got 111 shines when I originally because of them.

It makes sense narratively. Usually the areas are most contaminated during the first three or so levels, and Mario finishes cleaning up by the 6th episode. That's why Shadow Mario shows up in the 7th mission to mess everything up again, but you kick him out. The 8th mission is always something trivial, like making smoothies or collecting red coins now that the area is cleaned up.

I always thought the blue coins were insanely difficult. The fact that you literally have to play through every single episode of a level, just randomly exploring and shit because not every blue coin is always available, and will only show up at a certain episode, that's just so much damn trial and error it's ridiculous.

All they had to do was add a tracker of sorts and blue coins would have been bearable, even with the obscurity of some of them as you point out. At least you have ideas where to look and can somewhat narrow them down. Good thing there are plenty of online resources.

That coupled with there being no way to keep track of which ones you've already picked up makes it unbearable and unreasonable. Literally all they had to do is add a counter on the stage select screen for blue coins, like, "0/1 Blue coins collected on this stage", and it would have been mostly fine. I mean, some of them are so well hidden that you'd be hard pressed to find them without help, but that's less of an issue imo.

Wow, I forgot how dumb the blooper surfing red coin shine is in Level 2. I "beat" it like 4 times but I can't grab the shine cuz my blooper over/under shoots it on the dock and I crash and die >_>

They're also a waste of time if you don't want to beat Bowser. You get almost nothing for the grueling slog that is 100%.

This is a minor urk but I hate how fast delphino plaza brightens up completely. Like, you had 120 shines at the shine gate but it only takes like... 50 for the whole plaza to be bright again?
