The supreme court doesn't make the laws, they interpret them.

It's supposed to be so that they're impartial and less prone to corruption - since they can serve for life they don't need to sell themselves out to private companies or something to try to secure a post-SC Justice job.

One of those screwed if you do, screwed if you don't situations. I doubt they anticipated people exploiting it so drastically like we do now.

That's really a theoretical difference though. If the law says X and the supreme courts says it means Y, who can you appeal to?

Then you have congress pass a different law with the result that you want. That's why we have separate legislative and judicial branches.

It's another one of those things that don't work because we've devolved into a garbage two party system.

Congress can change legislation or the constitution can be amended. There are also several layers of lower courts to navigate through before the Supreme Court gets involved at all.

Sure, that's the idea. In Canada they call it the dialogue principle. It's not that easy in practice though with how slow the legislative tends to move.

Of all the things to criticize congress for, "speed" should be the very last. It's designed to be slow and difficult in order to protect against impulsive or radical new laws being passed. The representatives in government should take a pulse on the American public and find out if people actually support these things or whether it can be vetted by experienced people like scientists, local authorities, and business owners. Otherwise we might end up with a trainwreck like the Green New Deal or free college or some other horrible idea. Besides, congress has shown they have the ability to fast track certain bills like the pandemic stimulus if they are absolutely necessary and time critical.

The public absolutely should not have an input in the court system. Not directly anyway.
