T-Mobile website says that you'll get a free iPhone 11 Pro if you trade in an S10 via bill credits. So I traded in an S10.

The S10 was valued at $226 for trade in. I had to pay a down payment of $117.67 for the iPhone 11 Pro. The difference will not be paid to me via cash, but as bill credit on the 1st month bill (minus tax and activation fee, which doesn't matter for this topic).

I got my first bill. It shows a monthly due of $36.76, and a monthly credit of $32.25, which means I have to pay $4.51. I thought this was supposed to be free?!

Turns out the math works:
[Cost of the iPhone] / 24 = Monthly Due
[Cost of the iPhone] - [Trade In Value] / 24 = Monthly Credit
+Trade In Value at the beginning = Free

Why'd they have to do it like that? Why not just make the monthly due $0? Bah...

Phone companies are all scum. None of their promotions are ever as cut and dry as the ads make them seem. Always some bs hidden fee for activating the device or something.

It's why I will never do anything besides the most bare bones pay-as-you-go mobile plan.

you might like Google Fi. Only problem is that they are somewhat expensive, but they are at least transparent with their billing.
