I also think MP1 still has some of the best boards to this day. I loved that they were built around the games and characters.That mostly went away with the sequels as all the landscapes became kinda generically themed (like wild-west etc). But I never owned any of the 64 ones. 5 was disappointing because the capsules weren't as fun as the items, and because the boards felt pretty blah. But I did really like that they brought back the star spirits from Paper Mario. That was the most random thing ever, just randomly bringing back those guys and not referencing paper Mario at all aside from them existing. Plus the tank battle mode with unlockable parts was fun. I think it made it a lot less frustrating when you get a few low rolls in a row when you don't need to watch your buds move with 10s all over the board. I also prefer the more compact board design as a result, but imo they really needed more boards to help compensate.
