Yeah I farm part time, I live on 10 acres. I grow many crops, been doing this for years. Considering moving now, might go to Maine and be a commercial fisherman or work on a lobster boat. I mastered the art of growing veggies, I want to move on to something else. I never settle on anything, I like to do new things, master them, and move on to something different. My brain craves knowledge and challenges. Wife is entirely on board, a move from the mountains to the frigid ocean would be awesome.

Are you able to grow enough to live off of? Or even sell/give to others? Man thats so cool, Ive always wanted to do something like that. The closest Ive gotten is growing beans, carrots, strawberries, peppers and assorted greens on my porch in the summer.

Do it man, thatd be a fantastic experience for you. Ive heard its hard labor, but its a completely fresh experience and pays well. Is that something you can see yourself realistically doing in the near future

Yeah the town population here is under 900. I grow about 25 different crops and trade within the community. I have enough tomatoes, greens, cucumbers, peppers, and potatoes to trade for a few lbs of steak with my neighbor. It's a tight knit little community where neighborhood trading is a big thing. When we have too much for me and the wife, we sell real cheap at the weekend farmers market. In return, we basically don't have to buy chicken or pork, and rarely need to spend bottom dollar for ground beef. Community trade is huge.

We also have chickens here, and there's an endless supply of eggs so we eat a lot of breakfast. We have about a dozen hens. Here's a few.

Huh, I wouldve thought that the cegals wouldve risen to power by now

I mean as long as I can herd the simps into the fansite that shall not be named.. then it could be useful! I know some people expressed interest in the concept, but Ive been too self conscious to make an account. Ive been hitting the gym recently though and it shows

Thoughts?

Okay you have just described to me the exact way I want to live my life. Wow. Did the community help you set up your farm, or was that all self done?

Yeah, when I moved, here, a lot of my elderly neighbors showered me in pies, dinner, crops, eggs, and then they pretty much laid the law and said all but "learn our ways or begone outsider"

So I learned farming, pickling, and livestock keeping so I could provide for the community, and what happened is a whole lot of sharing and little spending.

I don't want to sound elitist, but fresh eggs are more orange than yellow, and the flavor is very different and pretty exceptional. A fresh laid egg to pan same day is like fine dining quality.

My chickens are entirely free range, they go into a fenced in cage at night, my Corgi rounds them up and herds them into it, solely so they aren't eaten by wild bobcats, cougars or coyotes.

It's a very different, satisfying and rewarding way of living, but I always wanted to be a fisherman/crabber and I think it's what I need to pursue next. I turn 39 next month, i'm not getting younger. I want to go somewhere I can fish, see the night sky, view the milky way and witness the aurora borealis while I bust my ass to make money. Maybe i'll retire there, who knows.

Huh, so you didnt really move there expecting to farm like you did? Thats really amazing how the community came to you and supported you initially. Nice neighbors, it makes me wonder about the people who dont take to the locals ways though lol

Its not elitist, Ive heard much of the same from others who have their own chickens. Id like to have some free range birds like yours. I cant stand the idea of forcing them into a cage

Yeah we moved here blind, I saw what this place was and wanted to be part of it. It's been 10 years now, and we still wake up on a weekend to find gifts on the front porch, even if it's lettuce, cabbage, ham, etc. I didn't feel required to adapt, I wanted to because it's the lifestyle we wanted. At this point, we have a lot of money in savings, some of my best memories growing up were spending summers with my granddad on the Atlantic, fishing and crabbing, and we have affordable options to move out to a home on the shore. We might be there by this time next year. I've lived in 10 states at this point in my life, i'm a journeyman, i'm ready to go again. Wife has lived in 2 states and has rarely travelled. She's ready to see more. It makes sense for us. I know this is an AMA but i've been amped up about this and wanted to share with someone.

The reason I say it has to be news is because I need an event in order to get an approval for my story. I have to go through the college first, sadly.

Honestly though that could be a topic. Imma write it down and bring up the idea at our meeting next week. Movie theaters being closed for so long could be a really interesting story, especially since it has ramifications for the entire industry like you said.

Oh shit thats pretty close tbh lol. Do you have any credentials or a title of sorts so that I can prove you to be a reliable source? Honestly this could be really cool

Omg lol so youre the gal that was mentioned earlier in this topic!

Yeah honestly ces main demographic is middle aged nerds, so it makes sense they more or less lost it. Just keep being you, but be careful okay. Youll probably get some pms from users wanting to be your friend or talk to you. Im going to tell you right now that 95% of them are secretly hoping they can get with you. Theres a lot of creeps here, trust me I would know. They especially, whether they know it or not, will prey upon younger girls because its easier.

Dont be afraid to be mean, or flat out ignore people lmao. No one should be wanting to message a 14 year old girl, no matter how fun you are.

Thank you for telling me about Machete, I will keep that in mind. Dont reply to him anymore if you havent already lol. Calypso is sweet, its a shame that she gets a bad rap around here.

Hey Harpie. So I gotta know... Did you start any of those wild fires in the northwest?

As for me I've been drinking, making love with the gf, drinking, fighting with the gf, drinking, making up with the gf, and working in between, and sometimes during all that.
Yeah sorry about that, I wanted to throw a gender reveal party for my snake. Somehow things went haywire when I introduced explosives in the dry grass idk how it happened man

Are you okay

Tbh Ive actually really embraced the style. I am absolutely shocked as to how much I love the aesthetic. I got myself some heeled lace up boots, a long black belt that hangs down (example below), more black jeans and tops.. Im living it up.
