I would much rather see someone just control controls and have no view of gameplay than see gameplay and no person. That way I feel like I'm hanging out with the person rather than just being a perspective third-wheel for their life and feeling like I'm near completely absent for mine. I don't really watch streamers like that, but the people I do stumble upon it's because I genuinely love to see their reactions on stuff happening. Mainly watching the hololive en when I can, and the doggo too. Virtual avatars aren't anything new anyway really either, when you have bands like the Gorilla's who use them.
