With a month before the election, Trump is making a play to Black Voters vowing to designate the KKK AND Antifa a TERRORIST ORGANIZATION..but also promises he'll make Juneteenth a FEDERAL HOLIDAy!!

He announced it at an event in Atlanta to increase capital to Black communities by nearly 500 billion and push to make Juneteenth, the day slavery ended as an official federal holiday

He's trying to firm up support from communities of colour, who tend to vote heavily Democratic as he also participated in a Latinos for Trump event in Miami

He said "he will always put Americans first and that includes very very importantly Black Americans"

The speech and a fact sheet provided by Trump's campaign didn't say how he would make good on these promises as only Congress has the power to create a federal holiday

Calls to make June 19th a federal holiday grew louder this summer as BLM protests swept across the country and is already recognized by 47 states and the District of Columbia

Hawaii, North and South Dakota do not have a holiday for this.

Earlier this year he planned to hold a rally on this very day in Oklahoma which saw some of the worst racial violence in history but he moved it the day after following an outcry

He won Georgia in 2016 but his lead over Biden has narrowed

Trump told the crowd "Biden doesn't know Black americans like i do"

My city was having none of that, when he wanted to have his rally here that day. He also wanted to do a drive through Black Wall Street, but it was made clear that he was absolutely not welcome.

While Juneteenth seems a significant date, I'm not sure that it necessarily makes for a good federal holiday and it is kinda pander-y. As for Antifa, that would imply that it has organization >_> Otherwise I'm sure all three or four remaining KKK members will be mortified to see their group branded as terrorists. Branding them terrorists decades after they stopped being relevant is kinda silly.

And it's cute that he's trying to pander for the black vote, when they're going to vote Democrat no matter what he does. They're the Democrats' most consistent voting block. For the last 25 years, 81-83% of black voters have gone for Democrats. Unlike other groups, it's ALWAYS been consistent. And when people talk about Democrats alienating black voters, it's never a question of voting Republican, it's a question of them turning out to vote at all.

Interestingly, the only demographic block that's really moved in the past 25 years is Asians. They went from being split down the middle to 72% favoring Democrats.

He could probably get June 19 passed as a federal holiday now, before the election, if he wasn't hellbent on ramming a Supreme Court nominee through Congress before "voters can decide" and thus didn't want even the slightest delay tossed in.

There's absolutely nothing stopping him from designating the KKK as terrorists right now.

If he's promising to do them, "but only after I win re-election", it means he's bull shitting you.
