He was a 14 y/o boy scout at the time who was then VP and stopped by his town of Sullivan for a campaign event on Sept 22, 1960 He watched as part of a Boy Scout Honour Guard when Nixon took part from a few bites of that sandwich at a cookout ahead of a speech After nixon finished, he snatched up the half eaten sandwitch and put it in a jar for safe keeping for decades to come Jenne said "He took a couple of bites and commented on how tasty, how good it was. Once he left, i just looked down at a picnic table and everybody else was gone and that half-eaten sandwich was still on the paper plate. I looked around and thought, if no one else was going to take it, i am going ot take it" He took it home on his bike and showed it to his mom as a souvenir and said "I ran in the door and i said, mom, i got a sandwich that Nixon took a couple of bites out of. She said so what do you want me to do with it? so i said, freeze it" She wrapped it in plastic and put it in an apple sauce jar and put it in the freezer as that sandwich has been in there ever since.. It earned him an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jonny Carson back in 1988 as he said "As long a si am living, that sandwich will be stored in my freezer in a container that is labeled, save, don't throw away" He still considers Nixon one of the greatest presidents in the United States despite his shamed resignation during the Watergate scandal that ended his presidency.
