I've studied Econ in college and really really got into til I never used it again. But it's helped me understand why people make decisions to buy this or that. But in life, not everything has like a monetary value right? Like how do you put value on time? Can you truly say how much time is worth in dollars? That's where utility, or util for short, is very valuable.

But the moment I explain this, I get blamed for putting numbers on humans or whatever blah blah when it's just an explanation of what they value more. Like if they like apples over bananas, then apple should theoretically have more util than bananas. If I explain it like that they're fine. But the moment I say, for you, an apple is an arbitrary util value of 5, and a banana is an arbitrary util value of 3, they start throwing an actual hissy fit, unless they studied economics and know where I'm coming from, aka it's just an educated guess to compare other things by a certain metric that I'm currently setting.

Just a small rant. I was trying to explain to somebody why they should decide to pick something else instead because it's not making them happy. That person threw a hissy fit
