Making homemade mashed potatoes isn't easy.

I'm not saying it's super hard but just the fact that you need to peel potatoes makes it 50x more effort than instant.

I think the only time Ive ever had it was when I had dental work and had to eat soft
foods. I cant imagine voluntarily eating it for the taste. My homemade potatoes are way better and very easy to make

I like all forms of potatoes.My grandmother made instant mash that tasted like I was at a Texas Roadhouse or something.I think she used Cisco,butter and did some condensed milk.Garlic too maybe,I still want to master it. Most of the time I just boil red potatoes and use a masher that came with my insta-pot.

I grew up eating instant potatoes, so I actually prefer them. I can make really good homemade mashed potatoes, but it's just so much easier to buy the box of Hungry Jack potato flakes lol

instant potatoes are one of the less offensive instant foods versus their "proper" counterparts, plus good mashed potatoes take time and a certain flair to make them stand out. my godbrother has a recipe from his mom involving leeks that is guaranteed to be a hit, you just gotta be willing to peel and put in the prep like most good meals

I've tried them a few times at different places, they aren't inedible, but it's more like comparing a salisbury steak to a t-bone. I grow and eat a lot of potatoes, you can't beat a good fingerling and red potato mash.

That's how I feel. Thanksgiving Dinner? I make proper mashed potatoes. My turn to make dinner on a weekday night in September? Instant potatoes it is.

One of my go-to meals is shake and bake chicken breasts, instant potatoes, and a green vegetable (usually frozen green beans, baby sweet peas, or lima beans). It's tasty and I make enough to have at least two days of leftovers. You gotta add stuff to the shake and bake mix (I usually pour in onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and (sometimes) Tony Chachere) otherwise it's really bland.

Y'all aren't just making the instant potatoes without adding anything, right? You gotta put in a little bit of seasoning. Does wonders.

instant potatoes are literally dehydrated potato flakes or powder, just add water. added flavors might be artificial and full of unneeded sugar but it's still potato

real mashed potatoes aren't hard, just more time consuming and easy to make mediocre and bland

Only issue I really have with them is how high they are in sodium.

I do like making mashed potatoes in a crock pot though.
