I hear its a great game with some flaws in the translation and "Yes" and "No" getting mixed up in some situations. And some spells are a little bit useless.

Is it not worth it to get the original on the SNES? Some of the hacks out there actually fix some of these falts in the game.

anyone have any experience with this?

I played 1 and 2 a long time ago on the gba but imo they were great, 3 was the real star though, unless my memory sucks they were pretty much your run of the mill rpgs and kinda easy

compare graphics between the gba version and a snes hack and go for whichever you prefer

also you should play the first because there are some reoccuring shenanigans (not anything grand though)

I can't believe the game passed Nintendo's censors, I'll say that much. It also has one of the most disgustingly cruelly disturbing scenes of any RPG I've played. That's not criticizing the game, but man did it make me uncomfortable.

It's been too long since I played it to remember what was broken, but I don't remember it being unplayable or anything.

Done. I'll feel silly if my memory exaggerates the scene.

Edit:
I looked it up. It's not graphic at all, but it caught me off guard at the time.

the gba port has an awesome title screen

If the GBA port has a better translation, that's tragic.

The original translation is still comprehensible, but if I recall it has a Wild ARMs 2-like "this person is only 93% fluent in English" quality to it.

I heard in the beginning there is a lot of grinding to do to get your characters up to speed.

I'm familiar with this in Dragon Quest games so is it that bad?

Gba version also changes exp and gold earned in battle so there is less grinding. It's one of my favorite rpgs of my childhood, but it is really grindy compares to some.

The game is good. Did it age well? Not sure about that. It's definitely a game of its time.

Are there problems? Sure.

Are some spells useless? I don't think I've played a JRPG where every spell was useful.

There is also a lot of stuff in the game you can permanently mess up if you don't know what to do ahead of time. And really, without looking at a guide, the game itself doesn't really tell you how to not mess things up.

Ok, yes - it's one of my favourite games. SNES version is the best since aside from specific glitchy engrish, the game holds up.

I don't know what people are saying about spell being useless, I mean - many get overshadowed by more powerful spells and the game is very cheesable using pretty much only WP Fruit and Dragon spells which always do 512 damage.

...

The game does have a few missables, and it has some HELLA obscure secret areas that are nothing but programmer easter eggs (who would ever press a button 256 times?)
