I just went to the food bank and found some frozen stuff that said "sell/freeze by" and the dates are already passed. I've got some meat that's mid-Sept, a chicken that's mid-Sept, and a $20 steak that says mid-August. Is any of this stuff still okay to eat, or should I throw it out?

If it was frozen the whole time, it should still be okay to eat. just check the color; if it's greying it's no bueno.

Assuming it's been in the freezer the entire time, that should all be good

Food bank? If you didn't pay for it, why are you complaining?

He's not complaining, he's asking if it's safe to consume since the labels say expired.

TC if it says "freeze by" and it's been frozen since before that date, it's fine. As said above, just check for graying.

If it's desiccated and encased in a block of snow, probably also a good reason to toss it.

People who can't read.

Well, if they're still okay, I guess I'll throw these in the freezer then. Thanks for the info, everyone.

It's fine. It's frozen.

As long as it smells, taste, and looks fine, food passed it's expiration date are generally ok. I ate bread, and almond milk couple weeks, to a month passed it's expirations dates without any issues.

Graying isn't really a huge deal, it just means it's been exposed to oxygen(for beef)

You'd know if it were bad, it'd smell like something you dont want to eat
