I don't know if that was more common at the time than comparable behaviour is now (generally speaking they don't get married now but it's still effectively the same thing)

fyi: at the time the play was written, the average age at which a woman got married was 25

iirc, R&J was set in the 13 or 1400s

this is a misconception. so many kids died young due to disease that it brought down the average life expectancy.

if u survived age 10, u would have a good chance of living to ur senior years if u dont get caught up in a war or plague.

because of an incredibly high infant mortality rate. those who lived past 2 lived lifespans very comparable to what they are now.

admittedly it's been a few years since I read it, but don't think there's anything that actually indicates the specific time period. does it reference some major historical event?

regardless, Shakespeare's iteration of the story was not being performed in the 13 or 1400s, so the audience would not have reacted according to the ideas of that time period (though the ideas of the 15 and 1600s were likely pretty similar).

tbh, I was mostly exaggerating, but I don't think it was unheard of for some middle-aged bachelor/widower to reach out to his connects to hook him up with with their young daughter

Cause if you're both underage, it's ok to bone, some obscure law allows it, was mentioned in one of the Transfomers movie.
